ok so what the *** is the diference between a yellow laser and a green? besies the obvious color difference what else? is a yellow brighter? is it easier for the huan eye to see? is the beam different in any way besides color?

Yellow is just for cool people 8-)

Peace,
dave

P.S. Pullbangdead has it right. It is more complex and has a less efficient output so it takes more power to pump less out.

My yellow laser on average is about 1/3 as bright on average as my 5mw Lyra. When it's got fresh batteries, it's about 3/4 as bright as the Lyra, and has a very visible beam. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as stable as the Lyra and doesn't stay that bright for long.

I'll get some pics if you're interested.

I like to call it amber, as it's almost identical to a yellow traffic light. :)[/quote]

Why? Have you been pointing at them...?? LoL.

You see whats really fun is when you take a 300mW green laser to the green section of the light. While its on red. :exclamation :exclamation :exclamation [smiley=shocked.gif]

You are right though amber does not sound as nice from a sales point

They are almost the same. The 1064nm yvo4 is layered with an additional layer of 1342nm. Therefor the KTP crystal has to be coated for 1342nm on the input side. Along with the 1064nm coating. And what makes it most expensive is the 594nm coating on the end of the KTP, that traps the 532nm light.

If your just talking about the performance. Its not good. Green is more visible, smaller nm beam = better burning strength, and has a much greater power efficiency. 20-30% VS 1-2%.

I think the only reason we have these types of colors is because of thing like; laser light shows, or lab experiments. And because our eyes and skin are more and less susceptible to different wavelengths. We need different types of lasers for thing like tattoo removal, laser eye surgery, laser eye correction, and laser skin treatment.

Actually, I shined it at some reflective street signs on a traffic light's pole while it was on yellow. They are indeed the same color LOL.

Don't worry, there was no traffic. :)

In the case of light shows, it's far more efficient and cost-effective to splice green and red. I've never heard of a light show utilizing an actual DPSS yellow. A 500mW DPSS yellow is upwards of $30,000 if I remember correctly. 400mW of red and 100mW of green should total no more than $700 or so.
