XPL discussion - the mystery company

Re: XPL discussion - "the miracle company"

Okay, so after a bit more testing the problem with the laser flashing on and off has become much worse. Now when I rotate the laser it will dim and then shut of completely. It's pretty much unusable now if held a certain way or rotated slightly. And to think I payed extra money for the "high quality" version. I can't image how bad the "low quality" version is, haha.

It is possible that your module is loose, that kind of damage could have been incurred during shipping. Talk to Peng, he will give you a refund and you probably won't have to send it back.

Get mad and take it apart. I couldnt stand it anymore and ripped mine apart. My 310 looks like it has enough material to do something with. Nice side clicky, can fit 2 18350's in it. Im leaning towards another 515nm module or the NUGM01T with the gball intact. Shoot that beam into a sanwu 3x BE. /win?

I'm probably gonna do the same soon. I wanna see if I can get one of those 12mm ebay modules in there

Did your laser have this same problem? How long did you have it before the flashing started happenkng?

Edit: I just took the host apart and the module seems to be glued in there with Elmer's glue.. I though it might have been thermal paste at first but I doubt it. Part of the module/driver is loose because I can hear it rattling around, but I have no idea how I could fix that without damaging it

Took a reamer and punched it out from the ir filter side. My XPL laser had a bad alignment of the beam to host. Then the beam would split at random times. They weren't symmetrical beams. I mentioned these issues to Peng and he said sorry can't fix it thanks. He said thanks. I opened a dispute and was denied by Peng. I definitely wouldn't spend more than a $100 on XPL lasers. It's a gamble. Some may get lucky but seems like there are definitely issues with his store. There are no high end lasers. Just you pay more lasers. I wonder what size modules are used for their direct diodes.

Denied dispute for a clearly low-quality/defective laser? Changing my mind about ordering from them. If you paid through PayPal you should see if you can work something out with them (if you want to bother, no guarantee they'll do anything for you either).

The beam splitting at random times sounds like mode hopping - which I wouldn't expect at low powers. I can understand it in their higher power offerings. Even though they state TEM00 in the specs they won't do anything about it.

LOL! That is actually pretty funny. I just sent him a message telling him that the laser is basically dead after only one day. We'll see how he responds. At least it sounds like you got more than one day out of the laser unlike mine :P

It is pretty frustrating because for $56 I could have bought a quality 100mW from another company had I known before that XPL sells total crap. I wouldn't spend more than $15 on them now.

Thanks for telling me how you managed to get the module out- these kind of 532 lasers aren't always so easy to disassemble to swap out the module.

Edit: hmm, I just recharged the battery a bit and put it back in the laser and it fires up like it did originally. It will still flash on and off when I rotate it, but it's nowhere near as bad as before. This laser is quite unusual. I don't know what to make of it or know how this laser really behaves just yet, but I wanted to include that in here to be fair.

Sounds like this XPl isn't so "Miracle" then. I think I won't buy from them either. Sanwu or JetLasers all the way.

Lo the thread's title changed to " mystery" company xD
Btw my XPL 301 150mw 532nm stopped working... i don't know why. I don't think the diode is dead because sometimes it gets on for a split second. It's not the battery either, i tested with many different full charged batteries. What could be wrong with it?

Sounds like a bad electrical contact somewhere to me.

Agreed. I've had this happen with one of my chinese lasers before. Try putting a piece of aluminum foil between the battery and tailcap. If that does not work, try scratching the tailcap contact a bit.

Ok this is weird.. when i press the button for 1 min the host still gets warm like the laser is on but no laser light is coming out...

Have you looked into the aperture? If not, continue not doing it.
Tell Peng about your problem, he will be able to help you.

I have with a camera, not even IR is coming out.
Yea i told him, waiting him to answer.

Bad LD (zombified)/crystals (alignment/damage) then by the sound of it.

Sure your camera can see IR?
