Hi all,

I have been trying to find a good set of 6x cylinders (preferably both the same size to make things easier) to tame the NUBM44 and 07E diodes and haven't had much luck. If anyone has a set they are willing to sell or know of anywhere I can get some please let me know.

Thanks

EDIT: I have found a source for 6x lenses that should be available any day now. A few other members have joined in with me to do a group buy and got the price down to $45 a set. If anyone else is interested just ask to be added to the list.

EDIT: the lenses are now available. Anyone still interested please PM me as soon as possible for payment info and we can get this group buy going. . . Finally

Glutton 3 sets (PAID 3 sets)
RedCowboy 3 sets (PAID 2 sets)
Alaskan 4 sets (PAID 3 sets)
Ed Kline 1 set
MickeyP 2 sets
Bionic badger 2 sets (PAID 2 sets)
Moe Ron 1 set (PAID 1 set)
Chrisbee 1 set (PAID 1 set)
Andrew124C21 (PAID 1 set)

I'm looking for some too, I might have a lead, I know someone who knows someone who might have them soon :p Let me see what I can find and get back to this thread later, anyone else have any better leads?

You could probably use the set for the 638, they are all 400-700nm AR coated, I have been waiting for a NUBM44 specific set.
The pair they list for 445nm are for the M-140/NDB7875 and are not enough for the NUBM44 as it is THREE times as divergent.
But the 638 diode is close.
Actually they are all 2x except the 638 set, they are 3x, I also think we need 6x or 8x for the NUBM44 because it is 3 times the m-140 so...that would be 6x :)

But I am watching for opt to get some in.

I think Opt is the same source my buddy found, but they are not in yet. I wanted to confirm this before posting, no word back from him yet.

When someone gets them in they will probably buy at least 100 if not 500 pairs to get the price break, so we should do a group buy.

I know CDBeam did a build with 6x, someone could pm him.

Here's a place that says they can make them.

But a group buy will save us money, I want at least 2 sets if not 3 depending on price. Although I would like to see them work and that they are clean, so buying 1 set to start would be nice. Again a group buy could help us all.

Lots of suppliers to contact, but again the bigger the order the better the deal.

LOL NEWPORT WANTS 300 BUCKS Nooooooo!

I wish one of our members could grind lenses..this would save a LOT of headaches as we are putting a square beam through round optics. Maybe an aspheric lens ground on two radii insame proportion as the diode it is made for. Like the old Carpenter's oval maker

Yeah let me know what you hear back from techhood about his lenses. There isn't very much info on his site about their focal lengths or magnification or even very specific about the sizes of each lens.

I already have a pair of 4x I got from LSP and they have worked great but have shown to fall a little bit short when it comes to the NUBM44. It makes the 44 look very close to an M140 but slightly better. I have been able to set fire to things from about twenty feet away and it just makes me wonder what I can accomplish with a set of 6x.

On a side note I was wondering if it were possible to get a better dot/divergence by simply moving the lens set a little further away from the diode in order to let the beam expand a little further before letting the cylinders to their job. My thinking here is that a beam expander (same thing here only a cylinder set does single axis expansion) works by widening the beam resulting in better divergence so by moving the lenses further away that's exactly what I would get is a wider beam and possibly a better divergence because of it? Anyone tried this or know if it will or will not work?

TECHHOOD has these and I bet he can get what we want, I will message him.

HEY! WHAT ABOUT a 3X followed by a 2X ??? Would that not be 6X, at least for the very aggressive axis?

Well I just heard back from Opt a few min ago. I messaged them about possibly getting a set of 6x and they told me they don't have them and don't plan on it but they can get them if I were to buy 100 or more. :yabbem:

Edit: I did the math and with a set of cylinders from LSP (above post) and the set opt sells for reds one could use the PCV from LSP and the PCX from OPT and get aprox 5.5x expansions. The other two lenses will then get you aprox 2.5 or so which would be fine for say an M140...

Did they offer you a price on 100 units? That would be the 2 lens pairs right? Hell you could ask them the price on 100 and tell them you will let them know, or we could wait until we have 100 spoken for. If they were 49.99 I would tale 2 sets but if 79.99 then 1 set.
Everyone else put in your number then we can ask their price, but if we buy more than we need to flip them that's about the time Chain will crank em out for half price lol. I can do 100 dollars worth.

Ok I will ask him about the price and get back to you.

I have heard back from techhood, says they have them.
Heres my message

Dear Sir
I need this for the NUBM44 @ minimum of 6X, many others want the same, we can buy 10-20 sets and more.
Please let me know when you will have these , Thank You.

Dear,

We have sufficient stock on this lens.We can ship parcel out in 2 business days.

Regards,
Robinson

This was the ad I messaged from.

I thought I was clear in asking for 6X, these do not say what they are, I am thinking about just buying a pair, they are only 50 bucks, and I could use them on my 07E if they are not strong enough for my NUBM44. I wonder about optical quality of the glass or fused silica though.

Maybe you could ask them being a separate inquiry if these are 3x, 4x or 6x because they already know what I asked for and may just say yes, but if you do not tell them which power you are wanting and they say their 6x then we are in business.

Yea I will message him and ask more details about those lenses. From the sets of 6x I have seen and just by looking at the picture I highly doubt they are 6x. The 4x pair I have look even stronger than that set.

On a side note I was finally able to find someone willing to part with 2 pairs of 6x lenses for 55 a pair. The only drawback is they aren't both the same size but I should be able to get them to work. I will ask if he can get more in case people here want any after I test them out.

Even so I still want to find a pair of equal size 6x lenses and am going to continue to search for them.

I have found some potential candidates on edmunds optics that look like they would work great. They are both the same size (12.5mm by 25mm), I can get up to 10x expansion maybe more, they have a basic AR coating, but require almost 60mm separation and goin to cost nearly $100.

Another route I could take through Edmunds to get the separation distance down is to get a 6.3mm diameter PCC cylindrical lens with a very short focal length (say -5mm to -7mm) and somehow mount it inside my lens holder after the G lens and then use whatever rectangular cylinder is needed to achieve 6-10x expansion (I'm thinking this set up would require more expansion considering the first cylinder being so close to the beams output). I have a feeling this might prove very difficult to align but hopefully won't require an extended lens barrel talked about in another thread.

Opt just got back to me. He says 100 pieces would be $40 a set for 6x cylinders.

So who wants to organize this lol?

Great, I think there are some folk on the other forum who want this cylinder lens set too, but my buddy tells me there is another source for them he is working on, I don't know where from though.
