Hello,

I recently decided I would try and expand my wavelengths in the red part of the spectrum, and I was told on another thread 638nm diodes can be pretty cheap.

I would like(if possible) someone to build me a 638nm pointer which outputs 5mW(nothing more please)!!!!! If anyone is willing to build one for me that would be great! :D

You already have a 635 pointer. Both are very close to each other and the color difference would be hard to tell. What makes you want a 638? Just asking.

I was just interested in getting more wavelength's that's all :)

I suggest you try the lower end of the spectrum since you already have one in the red range although 5mW of 405 will not be very impressive.

I would get a higher power 635 because I had a 5mw 635 and it was boring. The color is VERY hard to tell from 650 and the dot is just crappier and rectangular

635 diodes and 638 diodes are the same ones just so you know. Usually diodes are rated in increments of 5, same thing goes for 445/447

I actually see a slight difference between 635nm and 650nm, of course it's miniscule but it's big enough of a difference for me to notice :)

@hwang21 I wish I could afford such wavelengths right now, but I can't. LG said they had one last 654nm pointer left and I am planning on purchasing it soon!

Aw man, I'm selling a 1W 638.

that's what I was going to say, I see them used interchangably, even in reference to the same diode

even if one was 635 and one 638 I doubt you could tell the difference. though I think the difference between 638 and 660 is bigger than betweeen 532 and 520.

638 looks far oranger to me than 660. not orange, but closer than 660 for sure

I agree, get a 405

why do you not want anything above 5mW? those are so.... limited

I don't know haha. I purchased a 660nm laserbtb unit(which will be over 5mW)!

I will eventually run out of 5mW wavelengths soon and will need to look for higher powered lasers in some wavelengths which don't offer 5mW as a power output, I do realize that. For now though, I am still trying to get the most units I can in the 5mW power range :)

Nothing wrong with a 5mW collection. I personally considered it for a time. What I ended up wanting though was a 100mW collection. Got a good chunk o' the wavelengths and ended up selling most of them when I needed cash. Now I am building up the ol' collection again. Also, I see a clear difference between 635 and 650. At higher powers your 638 1W is probably more like a 645nm laser though, which may explain the perception difference.

405's are fun. But enjoy not being able to see anything if you go for a true 5mW. lol. PM incoming soon. Something you might be interested in.

Same here, 635nm and 650nm are noticeably different... I had posted some shots with my Libra somewhere on this forum before

And I had also initially considered a 5mW collection... but then decided the beams weren't bright enough :p

you collect all these different wavelengths at 5mw, and i am surprised you don't have 5mw of 670-5. I think you could get 5mw of 685 but you'd have to search or super under power the 35mw diode.

^I was thinking of getting 5mW of 671nm(if it exists).

Many people say it looks like a beautiful dark red :)

I have 30mW of 680nm now :) no host yet but got something in the works.

courtesy of moi :) I have more diodes, though they're not in good shape due to testing on bad drivers. i shoulda run test loads first. might try again with more if people are interested, but with better drivers. 680 is beautiful. 671 5mW can be done, but it'd be a little challenging. it has a high threshold like 473.
