Vista SP2 does run really good, we had no complaints with that one. Yes I know Vista got a bad rap, but with SP1 and then SP2 it was fine; heck I thought Win7 should have been Vista SP3 but MS wanted to get rid of the Vista name very badly.

We will run some machines on Win8 for sure, those that don't upgrade and embrace technology and change do tend to get left behind. We'll most likely scale back our production environment plans; got a wait and see attitude now to see what finally shakes out.

I currently have Windows 8 Consumer Preview as my main and only OS on my PC. Only problems I have encountered are some graphics issues, but that could be because the drivers for my card aren't fully developed for Windows 8 yet. I am downloading the Release Preview now.

Yet another reason to hold off... compatibility issues. While I'm sure MS worked hard to make it as backwards compatible as possible, there will be problems.

I never made it vista sp2 personally, but vista including sp1, drove me absolutely insane.

If I had a spare computer lying around, I would probably give it a shot, but since all my computers are in regular use, I'm not willing to chance it, until it matures.

I'm running it on my 8gb DDR3 / Core i5 2500K (oc'd to 4.3Ghz) / 256Gb SSD /Radeon HD 6780 and it runs like a charm. Partitioned off my Win 7 installation so its dual boot.

The only issue I've found is that it DOES NOT like VNC.

Apart from that it runs well.

I installed the Release Preview (64 bit English edition) this morning. I took the risk and installed it as the only OS on my PC. (3.1GHz AMD Phenom II X2 550, 8GB DDR3 RAM, GTX 550 Ti 1GB) So far I am pleased, everything installed well and the weird graphics issues that I experienced with the Consumer Preview seem to have been fixed. It really isn't a whole lot different from Windows 7 apart from the Start Screen though, so I am still debating whether I will actually upgrade once the official release occurs.

An issue I have is,

Say you have a folder on the destop with shortcuts to programs, in the Win 8 Metro "desktop" it displays icons as tiles for everything in the folder, not just the folder itself.

Annoying.

In case you guys haven't heard, Microsoft will be running a Promo on the pricing on Windows 8 Professional for upgrades. You'll be able to d/l Windows 8 Professional Upgrade for only $40.00 per PC until the end of Jan 2013.

You will also during that promo time period be able to buy the Upgrade DVD in the stores for $70.00 per PC. Windows XP, Vista & Windows 7 qualifies for the special promo upgrade price during the promo.

This should go a long way with those that bulk at the price of upgrading their Windows PC's, and also help to greatly reduce piracy.

That sounds sweet. I think I'll go for it at that price. I just got my new computer this week, a Dell Latitude D420 laptop. First thing I did was wipe the original OS and install the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. It runs great. (Dell Latitude D420, Intel Core Duo U2500 1.2GHz, 1.5GB RAM)

I'm not sure about pro, but the laptop I just got recently, I can upgrade to Win8 for $15. I'm not entirely certain I want to, until there are some more reviews though.

I'm not sure about pro, but the laptop I just got recently, I can upgrade to Win8 for $15. I'm not entirely certain I want to, until there are some more reviews though.

Unfortunaltey my laptop doesn't qualify for that as it is refurbished and not brand new. If I can get the upgrade for $40 I will probably upgrade though. So far I have been very happy with the Windows 8 Release Preview. It adds a few new features and the new start screen is starting to grow on me. Had it been the full >$100 price I probably would have passed as there really isn't as big a difference between 8 and 7 as there was between some of the previous OSs, but at least the price now reflects that.

I haven't actually bought an OS by itself yet. Windows 98 was bundled with my first PC, XP came preinstalled with my second, I received Windows 7 free with my College program, and my current laptop also had a copy of 7 packaged with it. 8 would be my first OS that I have actually bought by itself.

I bought WinXP when it first come out, and I still have the disc & packaging :crackup: , u had to install Win98/ ME first.

I also bought Win7 (upgrade) and a friend told me about loaders

Does anyone know if you need to have Windows 7 currently installed for this upgrade to work? Or do you just need to have a valid Windows 7 key?

Well, i have a legitimate OEM version of win 7 running on my laptop, so i could upgrade to win 8 for a rather small fee legally.

I really don't see any reason to do that though. I'm sure the metro interface is nice for tablets and phones, but what exactly would it add on a laptop that doenst have a touchscreen?

I suspect that if it got a new laptop that came with win 8 preinstalled i'd use it in the classic mode 99% of the time. It's not that i hate improvement at all, but i fail to see the benefit from having a 'facebook tile' to simply having facebook open in a browser tab.
