Okay so I would like to buy a 1.2W blue laser from Lazerer.com and any lasers above class 3a is illegal in Canada but some still manage to go through customs. Anyways, if this 1.2W laser gets confiscated by the customs, what's the worst punishment? My dad kept asking me if it's worth the risk buying this laser and I heard that the Canadian "national security" is basically above the law and have jailed people from buying suspicious items over the internet without trial. I also heard that there's a possibility that they might flag me as a terrorist if they decide to. Can anyone please confirm this. Thanks a lot.

In my opinion I do not think you will labeled a terrorist! Your laser will just be taken by customs. I have ordered lots of lasers up to 2.2W and it is gamble everytime. Customs does not check every parcel, and it depends on how the parcel is labled most companys lable it flashlight or other things to avoid customs seeing it is a laser. You can read other posts on here and if you search the forum The Canadian laws were just posted on here not long ago. Good luck I still do not think you will be labled a Terrorist!!

There are a few things wrong in this post.
#1 high power lasers are not illegal in Canada.
We've been down this road before. Read the law.
The new law RED is a law concerning the sale of devices
that emmit excessive amounts of radiation, and the intentional misrepresentation
by vendors. Ie) vendors need to fully disclose the
Output hazards.

#2 Canada isn't a police state yet..
no we don't jail people yet without trial.. Lol.
My BS detector is on High alert.

also before buy a laser, or dealing with one, make sure you have appropriate safety goggles
But yea you will be taking chances on importing a laser.

Oh yes I do know. I have a multi-wavelength goggle (445,532 etc) coming with the 1w. Even a diffuse reflection from the thang can mess up your eyes.

Good lucky buddy. My '100mW 532nm' from Lazerer was shipped on the 24th (I tracked it from Hong Kong Post) and it just arrived in Canada yesterday. I tracked it on Canada Post and it says "international item arrived in Canada and will be reviewed by Customs". Hopefully it will be cleared soon enough! I really hope lazerer didn't label my package as a laser pointer or I will be pissed off.

hahah a bit paranoid, well I don't think you get to be a terrorist with nothing but a laser. A box cutter or cell phone on the other hand. You may get put on a list, but its just a list saying you may have lasers, you don't go to a prison camp for buying a laser. you could go to jail, but you would go to court, no one has ever been flagged as a terrorist just for buying a laser. I hope if I ever have to fight off a terrorist in my home, all he brings is a laser. We are all on a list somewhere, but then again in this day and age you don't get real privacy.

I have had "things" taken buy customs, I get a letter, followed by the chills, but nothing ever comes off it other than me wasting money.

Thanks. Sorry for your taken items. AKA new toys for the customs.

Lazerer's package to me was not labelled as a laser pointer, I highly doubt they would label it so.

Customs usually check the return address if it matches they're blacklists. Or the package was scanned and was flagged for something.
