Wicked Lasers S3 Krypton - 1W Review

OK I just got an appointment to get the bloody thing LPM'ed next week plus those wanking lenses should be coming in soon...

When you measure it, keep the laser and sensor stationary. the laser should be about 10cm from the sensor and focused to infinity. use a fresh;y charged battery and make sure the laser is at room temp (don't turn it on at least 2 hours before you test). try and get a runtime plot as long as you can without over-heating the laser. then, turn the laser off for 10 seconds and back on while measuring and plot it a little bit more. sometimes these wide DPSS lasers have a weird power curve if allowed to rest for 10 seconds or so (usually a big power peak).

If you have access to a known IR filter, take a reading in real time without it and with it in the beam's path. its not sufficient to say "with an IR filter..." without knowing and reporting what the IR filter actually was. so if you don't know, don't bother because the data will be meaningless. if you happen to have an IR pass-through filter for use with a photography camera you can use that to measure IR passed through.

Also let us know what the meter was and the sensor used and also if you know when it was last calibrated and how.

I know, a lot of stuff, but there is science and then there is good science.

LOL, He would keep the results to himself and make excuses when told to post them if you get him to do it :P

Dammit Concordia.
Freaking LPM couldn't decide between 500mW and 1500mW... I ALREADY KNEW IT WAS BETWEEN THAT!
Next up... McGill...

That facepalm is for Concordia, not for you.

I mean a 1W swing:crackup:

You might as well print out a chart and toss a dart, or eyeball it. Hopefully they will get a new one.

Dear god... McGill's was worse... it was analog and had a maximum of 1W but the actual receiver had a limit of 300mW so... I now know it's SOMEWHERE ABOVE 300mW... yippee...

I'm not sure whether to post your experience with the universities in the Fail Thread.

Think you should do the honors... definitely Equipment failure on their part:crackup:

Its funny how hobbyists have LPM's 10 times better than universities :/

I don't think they even use them that often, but I'll tell you what, they each had a nice-looking 6W 532 sitting comfortably in their optics labs...
