Why is this happening?

I am building a 2w m140 laser, but I wanted a high and low power mode so I attached one 500ma driver and a 1.8ma driver, however when I change between them they are exactly the same brightness. Does anyone know why that is happening?

I am using 2 14500 batteries to power it. I tried it with two 18650s too but I still get the same results. Do I have to use 3?
 





I don't suppose you've tried measuring the power, or even the current? Your eyes aren't subjective or quantitative.
 
I measured the power out of the drivers with a multimeter, 1.75a for the 1.8 one, and .481 for the 500, I tried looking at it with laser glasses too, but it still looks exactly the same. Two 15400 batteries should be enough power right?
 
If they're outputting the right current, then all is well. You just might not be able to perceive the difference in brightnesses.
You need to get a hold of an LPM to make sure.

How did you wire up the two drivers? Make sure they're never both on at the same time!
 
My main questions:

- Schematics of driver wiring
- How do you switch driver

If that all correct and succesfully tested the outputs on a test load get youreself an lpm reading!

There should be a perceivable difference in brightness at those current levels IMHO. Plus there is a shift toward a longer wavelength as the current increases and the diode heats up, which would increase visibility.
