Hello to all. I hope that a reference to another laser site will not get me banned....ask Mliptak or Kenom. I am Mecheng3 on another site for a few years now. Bridge also knows me. Here is the deal. I have made possibly the world's first white light pointer. I have tried to post it on fleabay two times now and they have removed it two times. I am not going to tear this unit apart just to sell it on there as a kit. It is just too much work. I have had a lot of interest and so it is a unique item. It has three onboard drivers to power each laser. The lithium power pack I made will deliver around 20 hours of "on time" bfore needing to be charged. It is a 2400maH capacity pack. The laser is 1.55" in dia and 11.7" in length. Two switches operate the red and green lasers for yellow output and the other is for blue{405nm}. I don't know what would be a price on such a laser, so I have a suggestion from a friend to post it here. The duty cycle on this should be 2 minute on and and two minutes off. There is just not enough room for the cooling I would like to have implemented. I ma however selling it to aid in the purchase of more optics and am working on a btter design that will allow constant on time. During assembly and testing I did run it for around 5 minutes with no noticed heat beyond normal. I would stick to a 50/50 type cycle for longevity and just to create a good long lifetime for it. Let me know how I should procede from here........a couple of pix...... the prism does not come with it. I used my hazer to accent the beams.

The divergence is wide near the apeture, the spot is white. The output power is measuring 15mW after an attemp to turn it down to appease fleabay. I will not go back into it to turn it up in power. What a mistake.It was doing almost 24mW !

Here is the beam coming in as white light.....and coming out through the other side of the prism.....showing the distinct three colors.  7 mW of 635nm , 8mW of 532nm , and 12 mW of 405nm. So what would be a fair price for such a laser I ask? I don't have a clue. I do now how much things are, being a builder of 3 RGB graphic projectors running Pangolin QM2000. Any offers will be considered. After a week or two I may just decide to raffle it off.

OK lets start off with a price.....I can't ship outside the US on aircrafts with the battery pack aboard. I will supply specific instruction as how to build a power pack for it though. If it is purchased in the US, I can ship it ground via UPS or USPS priority mail. Some one make a decent starting price for this and we can go from there.
 
It looks nice, but you can't say that 405nm is blue.
You're not fooling anyone here  ;)
 
It IS a white light laser and it doesn't have to be blue to get a white combined beam. Besides 405nm is easier to manage and cheaper than 473nm and close enough to blue as far assome people are concerned. first time seeing a white laser pointer so small and compact. Excellent job there.
 
So he's asking $500 for something that could be built in a day for $200. Great...
(I have built white lasers in teh past. Fiddly but possible.)
 
OK I will go along with that. Now show me your laser.....pointer style like this one. No one's labor is free. I would consider $400 + shipping if any one wants it. I have a specific constant current/ constant voltage charger built for it as well for $25. I am not bashing any one that would attemp this. You will find that doing so is not as easy as some may think. Besides not everyone has a lapidary saw and a faceting machine to create / modify optics for a specific application. So my hat is of to anyone that does anything different. And I just thought this fit the bill as being not off of some store's website for sale to everyone. In engineering, it is my life's duty to find another way.
 
May I ask what is your layout inside the casing to contain the optics, lasers and drivers. If possible, photos of the innards would be nice unless you prefer to keep it secret. Some of the more DIY members of this forum might think it not extremely difficult to build a white laser for under $200. But I don't think he mentioned pointer style. I have tried combining the same 3 wavelengths beams to get white before and I can say it was really really hard and i couldnt get a properly collimated and in line beam.

You mentioned large divergence for this laser. What exactly is the divergence and does the three beams separate noticeably. What kind of optics did you use?
 
WOW --  $200 for a white ???  Super.  BlueFusion - do you have a picture of that ??  I've got some dicros and plan to try soon.  Mine may be over $200 however but this is a hobby.
My first try may not fit into a portable however >:(

I have special optics that have been cut down and reshaped and then repolished on one side, no dichroics either! One of the mirrors is not available any more, so I have to cut others from the larger piece that I have. I am not going to let the cat out of the bag....if you really want to know....well then....... even if you get at the optics....they can't be removed easily. Yes I would like to see someone make the same type, but half the size of this one...that is on the "in works" list. I almost have most of the optical train finished. It seems that there is little intrest in it though. It may very well become a door prize at the next laser meet we have. I am really unhappy with the reactions I have seen from a few people. I guess new things are out. Oh well... Thanks for looking at what I thought was a neat thing. I am sure no one would even want to look at the 1.7 watt RGB I have or any other goodies that I have built. Or even the 500mw 473nm laser that is also under construction.....enough of this. Back to my bench and o scope. I have projects to finish up. Sorry to shake the flow of things here.
 
Tough crowd, eh?

Your basic mistake bp, is not providing enough evidence that you have actually achieved what you say. You give us one crappy photo of your unit, from the side, and expect us to trust you. The people here know how lasers work, they need to see it working. Your "beam shot through a prism" photo could easily be just a shot of 3 lasers converging to create a white point. I don't see a prism there, the resolution is so bad. Where are the pictures of the aperture, the tail end and this "power-pack" of which you speak?

Show us a photo of that laser shooting a white beam into a prism to create those 3 beams where we can see all the elements and I'm sure there are many here who would be very interested in purchasing it. After years of eBay scammers and con artists, most folks here are understandably skeptical of wild claims. You need to present your evidence visually as well as verbally. You can talk the talk, but if you want to convince us that this thing is legit, then explain how it works and show us a video of it doing what you say it can. If you have done what you say, then you will earn the respect you seek, and more than likely the sale.

If you have the resources to design and engineer that unit, then taking a few good macro photos should not be beyond your technical abilities. Borrow a good camera and show us your stuff. I'm ready to applaud you if you've done it. It would be a great piece of engineering. But all I see now is a milled aluminum tube with some attachments and a low-rez beam shot. Give us your money shot! ;D
