Well, i have that one, but not with a CREE LED inside.. It's the same body as the other one on the list tho. The LED is the only difference. I have both the black and the aluminum one. I modded one with a CREE Q5. It takes 1.3A, and is amazingly bright!
The flashlight has a LOT of room for a heatsink. But it looks like a flashlight. That's why i'm cramming everything into those tiny ones.. But it's hard!
This flashlight also has a "pill" mounted into the body. That's what houses the boost circuit with battery contacts bellow and the LED on top. It's a big chunk of aluminum, that acts as a heatsink for the star LEDs. The head with this one only holds the reflector and not much else. It's built in a different fashion, than the small ones, where the head houses the "pill" with the PCB and the LED.
It can be used. I know Jake used it. I wanted to put an open can into it, but i decided to make it smaller, because i have very good heatsinks for those tiny ones (from custom made aluminum rings arranged by Scopeguy20).
I'm just gonna use this body for a flashlight. But it does have a lot more room for circuits and other stuff. It would not be that crowded and you wouldn't have to use every fraction of a milimeter to the fullest.
It would even fit an entire AixiZ module! This means you could get a linear driver in there (317 or rkcstr's micro driver) and use two 1/2AA Li-Ions - that was my original plan. I bought Li-Ions, where two on top of each other are the same size as an AA.
In fact, i even bought some Li-Ions, that are 1/2AAA, so i could use AAA hosts with a linear driver....
