what type of diode to use?

hi there from greece
i am new here , i read a lot of your forum

i would like to ask a simple (?) question
what kind of diode should i use to make a simple cnc cutter for paper for example
imagine to make precise cuts in 2D like stickers etc

i guess we need high wavelength in order to have enough heat to burn
the wattage i do not know what should be
1/2W? 1W? lower than this? higher?

do you think it can be done with diode lasers or should i not even try it with diode lasers?

i do not have questions about electronics , psu's , i can find-make-tune them.

if we find a diode that can do the job then we will disguss the lens maybe.

i hope i dont bother you with silly questions

Well you could use a +1w ir diode. It could be done, you do risk burning the paper though.
 
Yeah one problem would be to avoid bursting the paper into flames. IR seems to be a popular choice for those applications, which i have no experience in.
Your power will probably depends on how fast this thing would be zipping around cutting.
 
I have a 1.6W 808nm and it doesn't cut white paper at all. With a ~1W of 445 you can easily cut white paper, but you can put the paper on flames. There are some people around here with DIY CNC machines. You should have included the term CNC in the thread's title to reclaim their attention. anyway, the lower wavelenght the more surfaces you can burn.
