What the ****?

It's funny how 5mW pens are often overspec, sometimes over 50mW; and how "high-power" lasers are often underspec, on ebay.

^ True that....

Seems to be the norm.... From a financial point of view, its not any cheaper to make a laser 5mw over 50mw. They usually just underpower the module or diode. Nowadays they just build them as cheap as possible while making sure it lases, and dont really measure output power. When they DO get one that seems brighter than the rest, they label it with some ungodly high power rating and drive the price up. But from their point of view, the common customer isnt going to take the time to research it, especially if its just an impulse purchase.

ACTUALLY I think they really just make a bunch all the same way all the same parts- then they bin them( has to most likely be done on a meter)

the worst are sold a 5mW and so on- but maybe that has changed lately as i got 9 pens all WAY over spec- especially the reds ( 80 to 100mW) and the 405s- (85 to 110 mW) one of thr reds just went LED and a green takes a little time to stay on ( cold hearted maybe?) I sked ofr a replacement on the red and was asked to PP $2 to cover shipping- not sure If I will do that..
