What happens if...?

Yeah, I'm gonna second "death" on this one...

hah. probably guys.

"For 3% concentrations, a capful won't bother you but more than a few tablespoons may irritate your mouth and throat and cause abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea.

If the concentration is higher than 3% or you have swallowed a lot, you should see a doctor."

I only asked because thats what the vet told me to give to my dog via turkey baster because he got into some chicken and potentially bones..

Glad your pugger is okay Kart!

If anyone wants to puke on someone else (^^^^) I'd suggest ipecac syrup instead of hydrogen peroxide....

Teetolar chemist and his HS dropout brother go to a bar. Chemist asks bartender just for a glass of H2O. Not wanting to make his bro feel awkward, brother asks for a glass of H2O too. They both drink their water, but the ice cubes melted. And that, my friends, is how the butler killed the cat!

You know I have times where I want to vomit on someone while they're sleeping as a prank. Maybe I can drink some Hydrogen Peroxide and see what happens?

all my red blood cells will burst and I will be in very bad shape!!

I got a neg rep (1st neg in years!) from this comment because I'm told ipecac syrup is poisonous, I was not aware of ipecac being poisonous to ingest to aid vomiting so I'd like to retract my suggestion before someone get's really sick!

This is some stuff I found on wiki.

The commercial preparation of ipecac consists of 1/14 of an alcoholic extract of the roots and rhizomes of ipecac root. The rest is composed of glycerin, sugar syrup, and methylparaben. Ipecac root itself is a poison, but in this diluted form, its ability to induce immediate vomiting means that the syrup is seldom fatal.

Ipecac has been found to have minimal health benefits, and ultimately ineffective at purging the body of poisonous substances, and as such global production of the syrup has been stopped. As the ASHP puts it, "Ipecac syrup is no longer recommended for routine management of outpatient ingestions of medications or other chemicals".

A position statement cited several times outlines critical details of its effectiveness, including this direct quote: "In experimental studies the amount of marker removed by ipecac was highly variable and diminished with time. There is no evidence from clinical studies that ipecac improves the outcome of poisoned patients and its routine administration in the emergency department should be abandoned. There is insufficient data to support or exclude ipecac administration soon after poison ingestion. Ipecac may delay the administration or reduce the effectiveness of activated charcoal, oral antidotes, and whole bowel irrigation. Ipecac should not be administered to a patient who has a decreased level or impending loss of consciousness or who has ingested a corrosive substance or hydrocarbon with high aspiration potential."

And the source of ipecac - Carapichea ipecacuanha

Carapichea ipecacuanha is a species of flowering plant in the Rubiaceae family. It is native to Brazil and its common name, ipecacuanha (Portuguese pronunciation: [ipe̞kɐkuˈɐ̃ɲɐ]), is derived from the Tupi ipega'kwãi, or "duck penis".[1] The plant has been discussed under a variety of synonyms over the years by various botanists. The roots were used to make syrup of ipecac, a powerful emetic.

I was the one who neg'd danefex but after talking over PM we agreed a correction would probably have been better (and more informative) and I took it on board. I'm glad to see the post has been edited too, which largely renders the -rep redundant.

The only reason I neg rep'd in the first place is that it seems comparatively easy to get hold of Syrup of Ipecac going by how many videos on Youtube there are of folk taking it. It is a poison of sorts and its poisonous qualities are what causes you to throw up. Rat poison is actually similar but to a polar opposite effect because rats can't vomit, so they die. All it would potentially take is for someone to see the post and think "oh yeah guiz, I'm gonna try that" and it could potentially be disastrous if they took too much.

Next time I'll probably not give negative rep (I think I have only ever given it twice), as it seems almost frowned upon here and I don't want to start creating arch enemies - I have only used one other vBulletin forum which actually made use of this very same rep system, and people were very gung-ho with it, so I'm not really up to speed on rep-netiquette.

So, apologies to anyone I've upset, now moving right along...
