WarnLaser: The spamming scammers

Id rather not hide my email, I like to let people know how to contact me.

C0ld, I can't believe your letting people harvest emails from your forum with 100% proof that they are doing so, and not banning their account for spam.

spyro, i don't think i did anything wrong. im going to contact them ASAP about this but right now im in class

if someone makes a poll and enough people feel the account should be banned i will do it. they obviously have been spamming which is wrong, but the argument against banning would be that they may have not actually violated a rule of this forum.

i have not actually seen a copy of these spams, if some people could forward me them as evidence it would be helpful

class until 8pm will be back later

please forward the spams to atarasov atsign hushmail.com

c0ld - to be ABSOLUTELY honest - all they have done is what anyone else COULD have done - they went through, did the leg work, and harvested email addresses.

Everyone on here has the option to hide their email from the public if they wish - or to strictly use PM's to communicate their personal info - so if anyone posts their email address in the "open" then they are inviting this type of activity. Since I am running my storefront, I keep my addresses available for anyone and everyone to use. It is a simple thing to do - just add them to your junk mail filter if you do not wish to receive emails from them. Everyone now knows that they have gone to the level of spam marketing, and that is where they will stay, IMO. I see NO reason to ban them. Don't set a precedent here by letting the masses dictate how you run YOUR forum.

Agreed....

I don't see what the big deal is. It only takes a few seconds to delete the spam and you have the option to hide your email address on this forum.

Perhaps a poll is in order. I'll submit my vote. Its obvious that there are different opinions here. I personally agree with the few above posts. It's not that big of a deal. Warn Laser is just a compotator in the worldwide "rat-race" and trying to venture to other horizons. It's not like they sent you a virus or p0rn or any truly disrespecting spam. Those are just my points, my thoughts and I'm sure others would disagree. ;)

Sure dealing with spam only takes one mouseclick (well for me). And yes, if you put your email address on the www you can expect it to be harvested sooner or later (likely sooner). But like mr coffee stated because the spam originates from a company that has a banner on LPF it feels a bit like "betrayal" to some members I suppose.

Personally I could care less if the account should be banned or not. The best way to deal with any internet annoyance is to ignore/block it.

When reporting spam you shouldn't post the spam, as it becomes a free advertisement for them. As for emails, I never allow my email to be put in the public domain, lest I receive even more than just targetted spam.

Is there such thing as "good" spam?

I keep my email public on LPF in case a LPF buddy needs to contact me, not to receive commercial offers from a laser company who's harvesting these forums.

Isn't it illegal to send unsolicited offers to people via email?

(The only reason im getting pissed by this is because im so sick of spammers, but finally I can actually trace spam back to a REAL company)

I haven't received any spam from them on either my email accounts. :D

It is? :-?

check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN-SPAM_Act_of_2003 for the only real law regarding spam...

I think the requirements are that as long as they're not pornographic or otherwise offensive, and as long as they provide an unsubscribe option, they're allowed to spam you.

that said, it's really low of a company to do something like that... I think c0ld should have a clause in the site's advertising agreement that they're not allowed to send bulk unsolicited emails to forum members... upon penalty of cutting their ads without reimbursement.

it's like, you've invited them into your house but they're annoying the shit out of your guests... like a used car salesman making his pitch during dinner or something... not illegal or strictly against the rules, but still a major social faux pas.

I think WL at the very least deserves a stern talking-to over this...

edit: okay, so I see there's a clause "A message can not be sent to a harvested email address"... but yeah, idk how easy it would be to prove...

Re: WarnLaser: The spamming company ? NOT scamming

Wow - this is really out of hand...as stated previously - post your email address, or other personal email on the web at your own risk. If Warnlaser has upset you so much - report them ! Send an email to abuse@whatever their email service is and they will stomp it out ASAP. Instead of impotently bitching about it - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. So far there are three pages of whining, when adequate responses have been posted - and those responses empower you to do something (if you comprehend the messages??) about it. Holy carp (swiss fish ?) people ! I still have not seen ANY proof of them being scammers posted, either.....spam - YES....SCAM ? Nope ! Post some proof, or at least edit your title to remove the slander.

i agree senkat,

NOT saying that I like warnlaser, I've never seen their items except in pictures, but..
i give props to warnlaser for being creative in ways to market their items. i never would have thought of going through posts to look for people's email address then sending out spam to all of them, but at least they know that people posting here are interested in lasers so they have that advantage.... i thought their ad at the bottom of the homepage is actually kind of neat.

too bad they have the crappiest lasers around and can't sell them without going for desperate measures which won't work anyways. all of their prices are a bit high too...

I've not been on here in a very long time, but i just got the email from them. Figured they probably got my info from here. I guess it's partly my fault since my contact info was visible, but I dont think it should be allowed to be harvested for commercial use.
