Yes they can do that, only way out is to have 2 bank accounts, transfer money out to one bank and then transfer it to the next bank, they can't touch it like that

Can they do it even if it's two separate people? That would be scary then because if someone did that and seller bought a laser, then it could potentially screw up two people :(

Yes they could... If I had sent payments to people that day they would have all been withdrawn by PayPal

That's what I do now. I have my PayPal accounted linked to a second bank account that has next to nothing in it for receiving funds and a prepaid MasterCard gift card attached for buying when I need it. So worst case I just lose one item, there is no way they can take any money back from me.

Well i'v been reading through this thread since you started it and I must say 'Sorry you experienced all these problems!' Worst more that you don't sell much at all on the forum. One sale good, One sale totally F***ked isn't a very good track record so far!

I'm glad though that there are so many other people here on the forum that are honest and helpful so that all SELLERS/buyers can get a fair deal.

Good luck in your future sales!

Yeah... Thanks for your kind words though :thanks:

I'm just glad I got the PayPal back right now :) I am going to make an even better laser for myself anyways lol :) I don't plan on selling a laser anytime soon :)

I have an idea. Find someone you can trust who lives fairly near you and willing to help. Then when someone untrusted buys a laser mail it to the middleman instead and have them then mail the laser to the buyer. That way the laser is put on tracking as sent and if a scammer reverses the payment while in transit to your middleman your only loss is shipping. The main cost to this method is you need a partner and your shipping costs will go up to buyers you are unsure of. You obviously wouldn't use the relay method for a buyer with massive rep but this way you can be way more secure with the little scamming dirt bags :D

Think of it as a "secured" shipping method and charge accordingly for the extra shipping costs and for payment to your middleman. Bam, good bye scammers.

Just a little idea of mine, might be more work than its worth idk.

Yeah, only thing is like in this case, tracking shows delivered, signed for & I still Lost the case, if I did it like that it would have ended up the same way :(

Well, this method wouldn't help for the PayPal side of the issue. It would only help prevent losses of the actual product.

There are a lot of schemes possible to prevent PP from taking back money arbitrarily like sweeping funds from all PP accounts every day into a Bank account and then withdrawing the money for that account immediately so there is nothing there and so on but that would be a violation of teh PayPal User Service Agreement signed to use PayPal.
Everyone really should read the PayPal User Agreement and understand what they agreed to in order to be able to use PayPal at all.

Basically a User consents to all they can do in advance---if they can't take it take it back because no money is there you still owe it to them. If you do not eliminate any negative balance ASAP, PayPal may engage in collection efforts to recover such amounts from you and take whatever other steps, which are many and varied, they want to as outlined in section 10.3 of the user agreement. See: https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=ua/UserAgreement_full&locale.x=en_US#10. Your Liability - Actions We May Take.

Bottom line is PP is not conventional banking, nobody actually needs PP, and PP doesn't need any particular User either.
There is a binding agreement between you and PP concerning the use of PP's services.

That people rarely ever look at or understand what they sign up to is the cause of a lot of consternation and misunderstanding about same

Yes they are not a regulated company, in my opinion the money in your PayPal is not money until its in your bank, before that it's just a number, means almost nothing.

Which is exactly why protecting the physical aspect of the transaction is all you can do. I find it very lame that they allowed that scum to sign for and keep the laser after paypal reversed the charges. They have lost ALL respect I once had for them and I will be unlinking my bank account and debit from them and sticking to a prepaid for all my transactions.

Unlinking stuff is completely useless... They have it all on record for 6 years, if you don't want them to touch it contact your bank & CC companies and say you lost your cards... Then PayPal can't touch it
