I suppose you mean mW, not mV. mV is millivolts.
That's a pretty toght budget even for a 150mW green. Of course you can buy a 200mW rated one at dealextreme, but don't expect it to be 200mW. I don't think you can find a good quality 150mW green for that price, maybe second hand here at the forum.
Have a look at the X-series at www.novalasers.com. They are over your budget, but really nice quality.
That's a pretty toght budget even for a 150mW green. Of course you can buy a 200mW rated one at dealextreme, but don't expect it to be 200mW. I don't think you can find a good quality 150mW green for that price, maybe second hand here at the forum.
Have a look at the X-series at www.novalasers.com. They are over your budget, but really nice quality.

I'd PM Sandstone and see if she has anything for you. She is selling 100mW non IR filtered pointers that would fit your price range.

The one you spotted on DX was the one I mentioned earlier. Sure it's cheap, but it is factory pot modded and will likely die in a very short time.
Oh yes, you didn't know what pot modding is:
On the cirquit board of the laser, there is a variable resistor, a so called POTentiometer. That's where the name comes from. It looks like a screw. Simply put, you can control the electrical power that gets to the laser itself by screwing it back and forth. So, a pot modded laser means that somebody has been adjusting the pot so that really much power goes to the laser. The laser will be brighter by doing so, but it's too much for that poor little laser.
It will most likely die by adjusting the pot.
The normal way to get more power with a green laser is by having better crystals and pump diodes, but that "200mW" one at DX is not done so with. It's probably the same unit as the 50mW one, but they have adjusted the pot. Don't buy that one. It will only make you disappointed.
See the beam in daylight? Well, it depends on several factors. With normal atmoshpere (no dust or fog), maybe during a dark, cloudy day. It will for sure be very faint.
If you mean in sunlight, NO. You need several watts for that.

It depends on divergence, atmospheric conditions etc. But if you mean effective range, how far away you can easily see the dot on a regular surface, I would say several miles. At least I could with my 100mW shine my laser on a water tower about 5 miles away. The dot was pretty visible, although that may be as the water tower was white.
It will burn things. To find out more accuratley, read on the forum. Before asking too many questions, read. you can find many answers pretty easily on this site.

Several miles is pretty damn impressive!! Its a bit better than my £1.50 laser pen, which came with 50 different caps for different pictures!
You seem to know your stuff, so it seems easier to ask you about stuff! Lol!
Also, the search function is sooo slow on my computer that its quicker to wait for a reply from one you lot! ;D

If I were you, I'd start off by getting a 20mW green pointer. They are relatively cheap and are a good starting point. It would cast a solid beam at night and you could easily point out stars.
If you MUST have something that burns, it is easier and cheaper to go for a red laser. I'd suggest the DX 200 here:

A word of warning, lasers are not toys. Lasers capable of burning things are a completely different animal than your laser pointer with the different caps. It is not a word of caution when people say these lasers can blind you or others. They are that powerful.
Whatever you decide on, make sure you use it carefully and responsibly. I don't want to see yet another story in the news about lasers blinding a pilot over the UK skies...

I appreciate what you're saying reverie, but i am a 20 year old architect. Im not going to try and bring down planes/helicopters/animals etc...
I feel that rather than forking out for a small powered laser, then upgrading, i may aswell go for a good quality one, that im not going to get bored with. This should save me money in the long run.
Im not really into burning things to be honest. If i wanted to do that i'd use my blowtorch. I want it for out and out distance, hopefully with a nice clear beam.
Also, my dad is into star gazing, so he would want to use it too.

I'd let sandstone sell you one of her 100mW pointers then. They are about $100 USD and will suite your needs just fine. Anything over 20-30mW in green should meet all of your requirements. If you really want to impress, you could talk to some of the folks around here about a blu-ray pointer. The beam won't be as visible as the green however. I still think the DX200 are some of the best deals around for high powered lasers.
