Wanted! 150-300mV green pointer!

If that is the case, then you should consider something from www.novalasers.com. Their X-100 will give you between 100 and 125mW of green power, which is plenty for having a clear green beam. In terms of visiblity, you're not going to notice the difference between a 100mW and a 150mW green very much. If it is your first green laser, 100mW is enough to amaze you.

novalasers is the best bang for the buck: quality, power, great customer support and good prices are their keywords. Highly recommended. :)

If you want to save money in the long run, don't buy a green laser on DX. You will only become disappointed and keep buying new ones, as they do break pretty easily.
 





Those nova's seem rather expensive, but then i suppose you get what you pay for.

Im into car audio, and its pretty much the same i think. Overrated power figures just draw in newbies (like me in this case).

Sandstone has offered me anything upto 500mW, and they all seem pretty affordable too! But if they are overrated, unrealistic power claims then im not sure whether to bother or not...

Would an X75 from nova be more powefull than a 200mW pointer from DX? Might sound stupid, but if their figures are overrated then its possible i'd have thought?
 
an X75 would probably be more powerful than a DX 200 green. Most DX greens do not exceed 50mW no matter what they are rated. Also, electron is the only one here who has had a bad experience with Sandstone and he got his money back. I believe that she is an honest and accurate seller. If you want to wait a few weeks before you make a purchase, i know a few people have a 200mW+ purchases on their way to them from her. We should get some more reviews soon.


On a side note, do not discount what people are saying about nova lasers. You will always get a good deal from them.
 
Well i think i will bite the bullet and go with sandstone. I am waiting to hear back from her with regards to high powered pointers. She offered me a 100mW for $84 delivered, which is pretty cheap!

Are there any differences between pen style lasers and torch style ones, other than their appearance?
 
torch style lasers typically have:
more safety features - key switch, delayed on, shutters
longer duty cycle - 2 min on, 1 min off
more 'heavy duty'

pen lasers are good, just not capable of the same punishment of flashlight style lasers. here are some of the problems i have run across with them:
accidentally turning on in my pocket because the button can be easily pressed.
shorter life. Some pen lasers are over driven and can burn out fast. I have 2 DX pens and one of them doesn't work anymore. I did put it through very long duty cycles (over 1min on)
I have 1 other green pen and 2 more 50mW modules that I have bought from Sandstone. All of them work great.
 
"Torch Style" lasers have better heat sinking abilities, while pen style lasers usually have a duty cycle (On/Off Period) of 120 seconds/60 off, or 60 on/30 off.
When pen style lasers overheat (Commonly seen in DX lasers), they have a dimming effect, which drastically reduces your power. Quite often when you first turn on the laser, you'll notice that it is quite bright (Peak power), but then dims a surprising amount (Typically the average power).
Some companies go by factory rated power levels (Such as DX), and the factory rated power levels are usually the lasers' peak output, making the buyer think he/she will be receiving a much stronger laser.

More reputable companies such as Novalasers and Optotronics sell their lasers based on average power, not peak, so you know when they say 150mW laser, you'll be getting a laser outputting at least 150mW's of pure 532nm (Green) goodness.
 
Torch style's will have a longer duty cycle, from the increased mass. Most pen styles can only be left on for around 100 seconds, then off for 30 seconds for the best diode life. Torch styles can be left on considerably longer.

Yeah.... I've ordered a bunch of 40mW-50mw modules from her in the past and
they were all over 50mW... At that price don't expect IR filters... With an IR
filter we still tested those modules at 44mW... and that's still in specs.. 8-)

I Just ordered an 80-100mW module from her this week... I'll probably do a
review here once I receive it and test it on a Laser Power Meter...  It is a new
product she is selling... ;)

Hope they are as good as the 40-50mW modules.... ::)

Im in two minds whether to buy from her or not, as i read a very bad review on here.

I may go with a dx200 instead... :-/

I repeat, don't buy a 200mW from DX. Buy something from standstone, or buy something from Novalasers. Standstone has ONE bad review, but many good ones. If you're looking for a product that does not have a single negative thought about it then stop looking, as you will probably not find it. ::)

Buying the DX 200mW is the worst thing you can do in this case.

Yeah... sorry I wasn't clear... "she" refers to "Standstone11" a member here..

As far as I've read... there was only Electron that had an issue with her... but he got
refunded..

I have read a few good reviews on her Laser Modules... and here is one that I saw just
today on a Standstone11 250mW Green that is over the rated power as well.....

skylasers.net currently has the best (in my opinion) deal on a green laser over 200mW
it is their flashlight style laser with the 5 point safety system and it is only $499
a member of this forum did an excellent review of their 400mW version and it averages at 527mW!!!!!
i think i might get the 200mW one because its a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the compition, and it is focusable, and they seem to be a good company!
