One of the main problems with buying used laser power meters is that most often the "head" (calorimeter) is not offered along with the meter. Here is a good deal on a calorimeter that can be combined with one of the other meters available on eBay to set yourself up with a quality meter for a really good price.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/SCIENTECH-LASER-...14&_trkparms=72:1215|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318

Run a search in eBay for "Scientech" to find the meters. If I needed another meter (or a first), I would combine this head with one of the 365's being offered, but the other 3XX series meters would work as well. Someone is going to put together a quality Laser Power Meter for $200 or less :)

In the past, I would have purchased the components for as little as I could get them for, combine them into a complete LPM, and then sell them here. It is time for y'all to become proactive. You want one, you do the legwork ;)

Peace,
dave

Re: Want/Need  Power Meter?

Dave, you have found a new home for me ;D I have not heard of Toronto surplus before. They are a 20min drive away, and will be checking them out this week :o

I will see what they have laser related, surplus is easy to find just the laser related that is not.

Tell him you read about it here. Maybe we can get him active on this list offering "deals." ;)

Re: Want/Need  Power Meter?

I dont know if their the type for deals.. I just looked at the website and the prices are a bit steep. Another unusual thing is that the have a section for 'military' but by the looks of things most items are labeled USAF, which leads me to believe that they are importing merch. to stock the shelves and turn profit.

I frequent a few surplus houses in the GTA, and know of a few that have military surplus, but Canadian. In those type of outlets, the prices are good. I will go and check them out and see what they offer, but im not expecting much.

I still say the best laser surplus is found in the USA not Canada :-/ There are many retailers here that call themselves 'surplus' but it would seem that most of the inventory they have is China imports, heavily marked up >:(

But its always worth a look ::)

Time mainly, I usually spend 4-6 hours perusing the wares of these types of establishments. A true surplus house is full of boxes and bins, and you have no choice but to walk out with dirty hands and cool stuff :o

LOL, and if the "eh?" was a wise crack, Canadians use that term as much as we ski in July ::)

Nope, the "eh?" is me and I'm from Southern California (yes, I'm a native). It's easier to type than "es verdad, no?"

Re: Want/Need  Power Meter?

And really, dont you ski in July? its soo cold in some places it IS possible  ::) ::) :P :P ;)

Re: Want/Need  Power Meter?

The sterotype for Canada has always been an assortment. But when you see people comming across the boarder from Buffalo NY through Niagra Falls in the middle of summer with skis on the roof... :-?

As far as im concerned, city folk are city folk and country folk are country folk no matter where you go. We do appologise more than most I suppose, but that cant be a bad thing.

I think part of the problem lies in the media Everytime something happens that makes CNN or an American media source, there is always some wacky looking Canadian being interviewed who speaks very little english and has a thick french accent. I always think to myself, why on earth they asked that guy??? :P

What is the power range and sensitivity of those? $50 seems like a bargain for such detector, but there isnt much data on the ebay page.
