Just thought Id share a couple of pics and maybe add to the christmas spirit with all the snow! :san: Enjoy... ;)

The laser is my 2.5 W Saik. :) In the first pic I didn't quite hit the mountain at the back. The exposure was 30 secs, F 2.8, iso 400 at 24 mm and laser on for 4 secs. The snowy peak is approx 4 miles or 6.5 Km away!

Wow! Amazing beam shots and I am totally jealous of the area you live in. Looks like beautiful scenery. May I ask what kind of camera you used?

Thanks just moved here from the other side of Poland!:)

The camera is a Canon 1Dmk4 DSLR and a 24-70 2.8 lens. As I mentioned above Ill try to get a couple more pics tonight with a bigger lens and a 532, 450 and maybe a 405...;)

You have to use a much longer exposure to enable more of the ambient light to reach the sensor. You can do that by leaving the shutter open for longer (in this case 30 seconds), by opening the aperture (which I also did, but at risk of decreasing your depth of field) and finally by changing the iso (which depending on your camera, if you go too high will degrade picture quality).

Re: Couple of beam shot pics!

Ok sorry for the delay, here are the other pics I promised.

Exposures were around 250 seconds at f5.6, ISO 200 and between 70 - 200 mm.

The first three are Kommed's 25 mW 532 pen! (My only green...)

In the first pic, the laser was on for 15 seconds.

I increased the laser on-time to about 35 secs, in the next two pics.

This pic is from my Phobos with a 450 nm diode at approx 180 mW. Unfortunately I couldn't get the laser focused properly, so there is more of a bar than a dot.

The last three are my 100 mW PHR803T build. The laser was on for around a minute, but the 405 beam just isn't that visible! However, you can see the really nice single mode point on the mountain along with a couple of interesting star trails.

Last, but not least! I managed to get a couple of fireworks shots on new years eve! Only got a couple however, as I didn't have the camera set up and had to rush outside for all the excitement! ;)

Cheers and happy new year!

Nice photos! 1D bodies are magnificent.

For your purposes, I'm surprised you don't have a 1Ds.

Thanks Trevor! I have to agree about the 1D bodies.:D Unfortunately, a 1Ds mk III at $8K was a little pricey at the time. I also do a fair bit of wildlife action shots and love the response of the 1D mk IV. The auto focus is very good and ISO performance good, but I dont often use it much above 3200, as I cant stand the graininess. I hear the ID X is a little better here? ;)

Anyway I was thinking of a backup 5D mk II/III, which could also be quite useful for landscape shots.;)

Dude... the 5D2 is the best deal in photography right now. The prices are so low it's unreal. Grab one while you can!

I love shooting wildlife but I don't have the time to do it very often. Looks like you're in just the right area to do it. I'm jealous. :)

Haha, yeah, the 1DX basically has night vision. Printing ISO 25,600 photos on newsprint is no big deal. :D
