Hi Guys,

I sell 5mW green laser pointers online (eBay, Amazon, etc...) and I have reason to believe that the batch I purchased might be "overspecced"

I don't have access to the equipment to verify this and was wondering if there would be any volunteers that would be willing to accept a free 5mW green laser and verify the average mW for me? These seem much too bright to be just 5mW

I am just looking for three people (within the USA only please)

Any takers on the offer please feel free to private message me with your information and I'll send you one out first thing Monday :D

As I said before, only looking for about three or so people

Best Regards

Shame I would have done it, but Im not in the US. Most of the laser pointers sold on those sites are over spec. 5 mW greens are usually 15 - 35 mW...

Good luck

Given your forum reputation I would be happy to make an exception :yh:

Only request I have is you notify me on the exact day of delivery as I am trying to figure out the average delivery time to UK via USPS First Class International.

Let me know if you're interested and thanks for that information

If you are a laser seller you should invest in a LPM. A cheap LPM can be very accurate for this purposes

You have to be careful with rep we've had quite a few issues with it..!;)

I actually moved to poland a couple of months ago and havent updated my profile! (Ill change that in a moment). Since my arrival, Ive recieved a few things from DTR, Flaminpyro and AnthoT and the shipping time varied from 5 - 9 days.

I also ordered many things from forum members in the US, whilst in the UK, and the shipping time was roughly the same. If you are still interested I would be happy to help.

BTW my thread on overspec ebay lasers, may also be of some interest to you...;)

As was mentioned above... aqn LPM is a must tool for
Laser sellers.

I'm also not in the USA... I could help you out if you
decided to send the Lasers you want tested to Canada.

PM me if this would help you.
BTW What is your eBay User Name

Hey Kommed133 sent you a PM and a visitor message about your pen!

Anyway Ill just post the results here, as I couldn't send them via PM: ;)

Pen arrived today so I guess it took 9 days?

I tested the pen with brand new Duracell AAA batteries (1) and with an AW IMR 18650 2000 mA (2). I also tested to see how much IR output there was as most of these pens are not filtered (3).

(1) 44 mW!

(2) 47 mW!

(3) AAA batteries - IR 21 mW (let through 23 mW 532)
Also please note LPM was zeroed, but pen moved at the start!

So basically you have nearly 50 mW, but almost half is IR. From what I have seen this is fairly common though and these pens are certainly impressive!

I had a quick go at testing the divergence and it was exceptionally low. I tested over 3.1 m (10.17 ft) but the spot and the aperture value were, as far as I could tell, identical at 3 mm. I also pointed the laser to a wall roughly 200 m away and the spot was tiny! My single mode PHR803T looked like a football (english one :p) next to it.

I hope this will clear up any questions you had. Did you send out any other pens, and if so, have you had any feed back on them?

Thanks Grainde for that useful information! Very helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to LPM the unit.

I am looking for a couple of other volunteers. Domestic is preferred but I'll gladly to ship to some international locations (Canada & EU)

Best Regards

pm sent and replied to. i don't have data logging so i'll have to post pics.

i received the pen yesterday. took 5 days, about average.
good quality machining and very nice beam specs were found after installing 2 new energizer max aaa cells. i don't believe i have a proper ir filter, the one i used only let 10mw through so i didn't include the picture.

80mw is pretty good in my book. thanks for the oportunity to test!

EDIT:

i re-did the test using my "ir" filter and my rayfoss 150mw 650nm.
laserbee a read 140mw filtered
then the green pen: 72mw unfiltered and 11mw filtered
i then used my cell camera to "see" if the filter blocked the light from the tv remote. it did.
so i do have some confidence in my ir filter. just couldn't believe THAT much ir from this pen.
it does have a nice green dot tho...

Thank You!

With all the inconsistencies I have encountered so far with these units, it would not surprise me for a second if 70mW that particular units output is entirely IR and only 10mW is 532

Thanks again

Best Regards
