N-465, first I've heard of it, the 505 is also one I'd like too, after your report will order the same two.
 





I got both mine on auctions awhile back. They are brand new with uncut pins and no solder anywhere on them. As I recall, I got them for about $20.00 each. I'm not sure if they are even auctioning these off any longer. But, they are definitely 462nm TO-5, 9mm diodes and the backs look just like the NDB7875s.

Once it's confirmed they are not NDB7675 redcowboy, would be very helpfull posting it in the review section to help out other members :beer:

I also found and I'm sure other members also, the auction for these Diodes on eBay, awesome price "iirc ~$25-$35".....but only if they ARE NDB7675's :D



I won two of then at auction on separate days and the 1st one I got was LED, that is dead on arrival, when I contacted the seller he said he realized that he had received 7875's in place of 7675's but had more of the correct diode coming if I wanted to wait, I did not want to wait and also asked that my 2nd auction win be cancelled.

So I can't say for sure that anything is wrong here other than I got a DOA/LED diode, it would be unfair for me to confirm a fowl as I can't prove it, but I ask who has ever seen the 7675 with tin pins? Meaning they are pulled from arrays, why would any OEM want these 1.4w diodes when they can get NUBM07's ? Are the arrays " new old stock " that's unused, they should not be in current production in my opinion for OEM use but I don't know that for sure, just seems like they should be clean pins as I have never heard of these being used in a machine, certainly not anything currently produced...but again, I can't be sure of that, it's just my thinking.

I must admit I did not think before buying, the prices I got were 30 and 26 dollars or something along those lines, less than half what others are selling them for, I probably should have took a moment to think about how the add read " pulled from new arrays " because who has seen a 7675 array for sale, I never have.

Yeah, all these I've seen are new with clean pins and no trace of ever being used. I never noticed those auctions. Can you say who was holding them? Now, the NDB7875s are pulls. They have been since the beginning.

Looks like same guy, we know him but haven't seen him in a while that I know of, anyway 2 different ebay accounts but I recognize his return address. That is the 7675 I bought from the ad that list the location as Southwick Mass had Sun City Florida as the return addy on the package I received, same as the location listed in the 7875 ad with a slightly different account name, but that doesn't mean anything as far as if the 7675 is legit, all I know for fact is the one I got was blown.

Funny he's asking more for 7875's than 7675's , I did buy a 44 from him a while back that is good and some others, one other time I got a bad 06 that he replaced, anyway I'm not trying to rag on anyone, just sharing info that I have been asked for, the 7675's seemed like a great deal so I bough a couple as I already explained, I am curious if there are 7675's for 28.95 ??

I noticed his don't have the number 876 between the pins like the two I have either. I go mine at auction for $20.00 each, but for $28.00, that's not a bad price at all. :yh:

Here's a pic from Billy's build, the diode looks like it came from techhood because of the round plastic shipping container I have seen so many of myself, anyway the diode is a 7675 and it has the " 876 " mark between the pins, it's strange that some apparently don't, maybe some high binned 7875's can hit 460? anyway Billy pushes his 7675 to 470nm.

I doubt that a 445nm can be pushed to 460nm, but mine hit that wavelength at the minimum current to get it to lase and the diode never got warm to the touch. I am convinced that not all NDB7675s have the number etched between the pins. BTW, does Billy's 7675 measure 470nm, or is that just a guess? I noticed he doesn't adjust it on the fly so you might be able to see a change in color. I'm considering using a 2.7 amp Backbuck driver for one of my diodes. Just a little anxious at pushing it that hard.
 
I wouldn't because if it can't take it they will actually dim down past their cold peak and even more when hot, I have played with a lot of 7875's, 06's, 44's on bench top and when overdriven carefully they will fade out to nothing then recover when the current is backed down, so you may overdrive a new one from a cold start and see it work, but actually get less light than if you ran at say 2.4 amps, I would go with 1.8 myself.
 
Yeah, Billy is using a 2.7 amp Blackbuck driver with his and added a 10K pot on the side to adjust the between no output and maximum current. My maximum I would normally run one of these is 2.4 amps, but 1.8 amps is safer. I figured I'd get a better WL shift at 2.4 amps.
 
WL shift at over current seems like the diode crying for mercy, if you can power meter the output and the wavelength simultaneously you may see the power go down as the wavelength hits the peak of it's shift, this is just something I have seen naked eye with 06 diodes that were decanned and are on their way down, once they start to lose power I play with them and they do not take as much current when hot before dimming down as they can take when cold, my opinion is driving them that hard is straining them, but if all someone does is play for 60 seconds a dozen times a day then put it away for a week it may seem that they last, but add up the total running hours and I bet overdriving until color shift shortens the MTTF or mean time to half brightness, because laser diodes are wear items, it only figures torqueing the crap out of them will shorten their lifespan.

That is true. I have rethought my desire to use the Blackbuck at 2.7 amps. I think 2.4 amps is still safe in the short term and worth using for this diode to see how much of a WL shift it will give. I still have two of these diodes I paid $20.00 each for, so I think if it shortens the life of one, it is not that great a loss. I plan on taking a spectrum reading of it as it is on for about two minutes to see if it will continue to shift over time. The host I have for it has a large copper heat sink, so it may not even get that hot.
 
That will be interesting to see how operating temp effects the color shift, and if you are checking output power that's sure to decline some, with a good heat sink not as much or as fast, but they do drop power slowly from the moment we turn them on running above spec.

I sometimes pre chill my heat sink, not enough to cause moisture in the air to fog the optics, but enough to give the diode a head start and it seems to make a difference, that's also something that could be tested, of course not all diodes will act the same, but I think heat build up is the great enemy of our blues.
 
The wavelength change is most obvious at very high currents on these diodes. If you don't mind the risk of it popping I'd go for 2.8A. I have one at 2.8A and another at 1.8A, the color is completely different. I'll probably make a thread about mine when I get some free time.
