Tutorial - My 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Laser!

I guess thats the best solution then, pushing it all the way in. Might get a little better heat dissipation too? Anyway, are my heatsinks en route? :P
I found a local reseller for the sku 46 hosts, so i now have bigger chance at least one of those pairs will be the real deal. Drews sleds are on the way too. Then i'll probably have to wait for the flexdrives.. sigh. Probably well worth the wait tho.
Oh and i got those eneloops to power them. Hope they will last long.

Your two sku 46 heatsinks and o-rings will be in today's mail!

Great :)

Edit:
I got my hosts from the local reseller and luckily they are both SKU 46 type! but MAN.. they are small.
Suddenly i am not so sure about the 400mA long open can red idea..

Edit2:
Got the DX aixiz module, it seems like its a good one, lens nut is not glued and no threading is missing. can't get the frontpiece off but i guess i need to use pliers to turn it loose tomorrow. Got the heatsinks, thanks Jay. Now to wait for my sleds and the drivers.

I got 2 focussing modules, one from DX , and one from Drew:
left=drew, right=DX
Which should i use for bluray and which one for red? I will be replacing the lens for the red one.

The lenses are interchangeable, so you will be able to see which one will focus better for the blu-ray. Worst case, you can remove the 'finger grip' focus ring to allow the lens to get closer to the diode if needed...

Either lens will work fine for the red. If you wanted more power with your red using the AixiZ module, get one of these AR (for red) coated lenses. They will give you 10% more power compared to the AixiZ acrylic. (for reds):

I had to wait 3 weeks from China, but they are worth it! I have a few left... I would charge $14 shipped...

Thanks for all the help jay, i put my blu-ray pocket pal together. Sadly i destroyed my LOC diode (too hot soldering, pin came loose) so no red pocketpal yet :(
Check the beam in the video :)

Actually i want to make a small green laser too.. Is this possible using my leftover sku 46? :) I don't really like the cree style lights in your green tut :P

For the O-like modules you need a host that is about that long. It won't fit for the sku 46.

There are some smaller modules available. But I don't know a source to recommend because I have not tried them...

CNI has some pretty small modules ;)

Somehow i doubt they will sell single units for a reasonable price.

Jayrob could you please post the dimensions of your heatsink because i have a slightly different host i would like to use.

I have different dimensions for the sku 46 heatsink vs the VicLight host that I show in the first thread.

If you have a different host, these heatsinks will most likely not work. You would have to send me the host, and I can take some measurements. The main thing, is that the head needs to unscrew from the host.

I have seem a couple of 'look alike' hosts that do not. The plastic lens is glued in and holding the parts in from the front. Not good for a laser mod.

If yours unscrews, what is the exact dimensions of the I.D. of the head, and the I.D. of the front where the heatsink would protrude through?
Jay

If you look at the little round board, is the outer contact part needed where it meets the spring?

A guy here helped wire up my build and he insisted it was not needed and would just be shorting it so he took the liberty of cutting the track. The build just refuses to work now, it is definatly wired up correctly so I am lost if thats not what the problem is...
