Totaly new to this stuff, need some help please please please.

If you turn the diode clockwise 90° , pattern of pins forms this: >
So, top one is positive, middle one (right one, connected to case) negative, bottom one not used.

I'm surprised nobody answered this simple question so far.

Thanks guys. Sorry splat, didnt see the edit.

So yea Im expecting my diodes in the mail today. Should be able to have something smoking by tonight.

Looks like you got more than enough info for your build. Go slow, be sure of what you are doing, be SAFE, and have fun!
Good Luck!

Yes! Success! Oh... Now its broken...

For a few sweet minutes, It worked beutifully. Nothing heated up, everything was great, I focused it and it was the most spactacularly cool and beutifull things I have ever created.

Then it stopped working. At first, It only worked if I held it at certain angles, then it stopped working all together. The battery case, switch, driver, and capacitor are all working. The only things Im not sure about are the capactor and the diode. The diode was working earlier, is very well conected, and as far as I can tell is working.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Thank,
Liam.

Any pictures of your setup maybe? It would help a lot!

Sounds to me like you've got something disconnected.

Ok, I figured it out. it was poorly conected to the diode. Unfortunately, when I tried to reconect it, the lead snapped off. Sigh. Take 7 here we go. Ive ordered a few more diodes, now bring on the 3-6 day shipping.

I am speachless. It worked. I now have a laser. I will upload photos asap.

Thank you all so very, very much for your help.
