Are there some brands better than others? What kind do you recommend?

For press fit modules, what can i use as a thermal lubricant? Id rather not use adhesive in case I need to remove the module.
Thx

You could try these, I've used them, and they seem to perform well. There are probably cheaper brands out there that work just as well; maybe someone else has experience with other brands.
I know that both Survival Laser (LPF member), and RadioShack sell these; and probably many other computer and electronics stores also.

BTW - I agree, I wouldn't want to use an adhesive for that either. :D

^ yeah, that's what I use when needed but I'm just trying to make up some space such as putting a module in a pen that has a bit of wiggle room I use thin copper for its thermal and electrical conductivity. Not sure where you can buy a small amount of the copper I use as I happened to have a long sheet of it that was leftover from a job when I was working. Think the original roll came from a lumber yard as it was used between a piece of lumber and metal.
You can likely get some at a hardware store but I've never looked. Expect it to be expensive. If it has an adhesive on one side like mine does it comes right off with paint thinner/remover.

Actually, you can get this on eBay fairly inexpensively:
50MMX1M Copper Foil Tape Pedal Single Sided Adhesive EMI Shielding GBW | eBay

There are all sorts of thickness, etc.

or use the adhesive and get a module extractor. lots of options here

I've used no-name chinese adhesives on 3W LED stars, and it's fine.

Using the pricey stuff might make sense if you're putting it on a 150W CPU or something, but laser diodes are <8W of heat. Meh.

Think that copper is not as thick as mine but I have nothing to measure the thickness. Mine has a pretty decent stiffness. You can always find a use for thin copper in this hobby.

Hi NO !! Adhesive get yourself some thermal paste arctic or radio shack stuff. If you glue it and it fries on you forget about it . The set screw holds in the module the paste is for thermal dispersion to the heat sink.
