The UltraFire 90mW topic

i finally got mine but it does the oppisite of what you guys were saying. it starts off weak then it gets stronger, but not strong enough to be 90mW i dont think. it burnt a Lego tire tho lol.

how do i disassemble this so i can see if there's a 30mW diode inside?
 





Read my oppinion above - a little FAQ how to dismantle the laser. It takes some force to take it appart though!

when u get to the part where u use the wrench, what part are you trying to pull off? im assuming it's this

now ive tried taking the silver part out, but i scratched it...ill try again lol...
wow, the thing is reaaaly scratched up now. i just cant get it off.
 
I took mine apart today, I clamped the flat part of the flashligt firmly in a vice and used an adjustable wrench (polygrip) to twist and wiggle the aluminium part with the laser free.
Then i milled the aluminium ring off the laser since it was som deformed after my "gentle" tries to get it out.

Mine had no markings what so ever and the brass cylinder containing the optics  looks smaller than the one on the first disassembly picture.
The driver is incredibly primitive, one potentiometer (not set to max), one 1uF capacitor, one 10k resistor , one small signal PNP transistor 2TY and a C5103 power transistor!
I will replace this with a d4drive from die4laser.com and se what power I can force from this laser... :)

yours had no marking on it? but it didnt seem like a 90mW?
 
I would say about 60 mW but that is very hard to tell without a real power meter. I'll try to measure it in the coming weeks.
I got even braver and took the focusing lens and top 20 mm brass ring off, the actual laser with diode and crystals is about 10 mm long, amazing that they can cram all that stuff in there!
 
i finally got my laser apart, on accident (which i think was a bad thing).
i was just laying down playing around with it, twisting the top, then before i know it, the pop just shoots off! along comes the diode and mainboard, the "other" top was screwed to the diode. so i looked, and there was no markings, so the good news is i think mine really was 90mW, especially after putting new batteries in it it was a lot brighter. the bad news was that i broke it, long story short, there is annoying like about 6 inches making a circle around the dot, then the laser stoppped working, and i cant get it back together without feeling like a spring inside with shaky parts. good thing im returning it, and i know not to take it apart again. however i did get some cool pictures before it's life was taken.

It is a unmarked open can diode that is very easy to remove since it is fastened with a nut with threads on the outside (I dont know what that part is called in english).

Huh??? I didn't know anyone made open can IR diodes. :P
 
I thought so too and when I looked further and found that the can twisted off when i removed the diode, it sat inside a little brass spacer.
The can is a simple metal part with no glass window or anything, no markings or model numbers.
Anybody have a good source for replacement diodes, between 500 & 1000 mW?
 
Any way you could take a picture of it? I believe you but I would like to see it. Thanks.. :)
