Pot's for adjustable power are tricky with DDL-based linear drivers. A 3 or 5 selection switch would be quite doable. Though I would have had to sacrifice something else for the space, and that wasn't an option this time around. Maybe for the MK III.....:)

When I build my Labby I used an Analog Driver, a 5V Voltage Regulator and a Pot, I think thats the easiest way to get a Laser with Adjustable Power (almost linear if u know which Pot u need ;))...

Interesting. A few questions:

1) You mentioned using a 5V regulator. Not an adjustable regulator? Mind explaining the circuit you used?

2) Have you been able to locate a sub-1ohm pot?
 
The 5V Regulator with the Pot is used to get a Voltage from 0-5V. If you use an adjustable regulator you get problems reaching exactly 0V oder 5V, to get both you need a very complicated circuit... If u use the right resistance (Actually, I dont remember exactly how it was, but Im using I think 10 times the resistance of the modulation resistance of the analog driver, and got it almost linear). I think the modulation port of my Driver was 1kOhm and I used a 10kOhm Pot.

Thats how I done it:

Now you can easily adjust the Voltage from 0-5V with your Pot, and the Analog Driver will handle anything else. The biggest problem here may be that analog drivers are relative expansive, Got mine for 40€ (Goes up to 2A). But this driver got some features like soft start (Only for turning on, not the modulation ;) ) and 2 Status LEDs, so there should be cheaper ones...
 
Oh lol - I had totally misunderstood your comment. I was thinking you had built an analog driver from a 5V voltage regulator ;)

I saw your first Ninja build a few weeks ago when you were selling it, I would have bought it if I had the cash at the time. You need to make these for sale! I would be first in line :wave:

You know, I took the Ninja down - or took that sale item down. It was sort of a sentimental move - I really like that build, even with the MK II next to it.

I think I would still be open to selling it... I don't *need* it, and I really am trying to clear out some "build-up" (hehe, bad pun).

Awesome I have been thinking of something similar but you just did it so elegantly. I have a few of those mini lithium packs but they don't have too high capacity, what are yours rated at?
