The LazerBlade

i am a backer myself, and lucky to get the 2nd early bird.. i am not experienced DIYer so i choose the kit.
Actually there are 2 project in Kickstarter for laser engraving:
1. Lazerblade = $600, M140 diode (could upgrade to 3w Nichia in strech goal), software packages, Arduino Gbrl, acrylic body
2. Mr Beam = $550, 200mw red diode (+$50 to 1w blue), Uno+gbrl shield,RaspPi, WIFI web interface, wood body
So what do you think guys? in experienced opinion, which have advantage and cheaper?

Clearly the $550 one is cheaper ;)

I would go for that one and upgrade the diode myself, but that's just me.

if i got lazerblade for the same $550, which to go?
i know lazerblade gonna take their strecth goal for 3w (2++w) laser diode..

why no one here in LPF sell any gbrl like laser engraver.. or make one.. :drool: if someone post step by step making one, i might follow them and leave these kits..

Thank you for the feedback! We wanted to price at cost since it's open sourced and really exists for the enjoyment of the community. As of right now we offer the full kits and partial kits (which breaks down into framework, hardware, and electronics). Both the full kits and electronics kits come with really basic diodes to ease the confusion for those who are less DIY-prone). As you know, it truly doesn't add too much cost to the kit but I think I will act on your advice and break it down further post-Kickstarter for those who don't need the diode/driver.

Keep it coming: this type of feedback is priceless!

I actually found it very hard to understand how the "partial kit" option worked - possibly because I've only backed a couple projects and don't use the site a lot. But it seemed confusing that this reward was $50,'but then had other costs in the text, some of which were upgrades, but others which didn't seem to be.

The way I've seen it done on other projects, and that I think is a lot easier to follow, is to just have a reward that clearly states exactly what you get. Ie "All the parts, unassembled" or "assembled working item" or "just the schematics and diagrams" or "all the parts minus the widget spanner" etc.

Another fantastic point. The only bummer, Kickstarter won't let me rephrase awards once it's launched :(

When it's on our site I'll have to ask you to look again to make sure it passes the sanity check. We hit our goal last night! So excited to be able to be a contributing part of this community!
