The development of laser weapon.
"Reference News" recently published an article "the United States to test new vehicle borne laser weapons", described the U.S. military was testing a new type of vehicle mounted burning laser .
It is reported that this weapon choosed the Ultra Powerful Laser Pointer placed in a truck which emission power come to 10 kilowatts. The U. S. military also said that the main purpose is to test the tactical use of weapons, if success, the U.S. military will be officially listed on the laser weapons in 2025 .
Laser weapon has been the focus of attention. Over the past two years in the United States, the new laser weapons have been put into the test, and even a lot of them was put on the test equipment. The america military has equipped with a shipboard Green Laser weapon on the amphibious landing ship . Meanwhile,in the test of airborne laser weapons. When some countries develop "six generation aircraft" ,they consider a laser weapon as a key technology.
Which grade laser weapon has come to? Does laser weapon can really achieve large-scale equipment, sweep away the millions of enemy troops?
Laser weapons have many advantages, the most important is that the laser light running at the speed of light, you can hit everywhere you are pointing. Besides,it seems full of energy all the time if there is a energy supply. This makes laser weapons has become a focus of the development of new weapons in various countries.
However, there are many disadvantages at the same time.For example, if you want to use it in a large scale, it must be considered that the light is scattered by the atmosphere.At present, the largest and most advanced laser weapon project is laser anti missile weapon which has loaded on the Boeing 747 ABL airborne . The United States plans to do a lot of great ambition, such as taking it as ballistic missile interception in the future. Moreover, the power of ABL has come to 100 kilowatts level, which is far greater than the U.S. laser weapons testing currently.As u konw, the ordinary laser pointer keychain is just 1mw!ABL comes to end, because there are a lot of difficulties that can not be overcome. For example, to meet the energy needs of the equipment,the america scientists must try their best to develop it which is very difficult to make this came true. Besides, the real launch of the laser beam in the atmosphere will soon be affected by scattering, attenuation, effective range which is far less than expected.
Although laser weapons has a lot of development and breakthrough in principle these years.It develops from the initial solid state 100mw laser to carbon dioxide 3w laser, and then the chemical lasers such as deuterium fluoride laser and oxygen iodine laser.But actual effect is unsatisfactory. More importantly, according to the power of the launch, the existing laser weapon is able to combat UAV, small tactical missiles. It's not availabe to hit the plane far away.
Someone have made a comment on laser weapon that if it's ready to put into using,the transmitting power of the laser weapon will at least 100kW. If we take it into the complexity battlefield environment, laser weapons probably can not do it well even it equipped with a Laser Sight .
