Testing of the New 650nm/660nm 5W Diode.!

Hi Rick,

Have you tried to PBS two of them?
What drivers do you use with them?
Are there TECs with holes for such powerful C-mount diodes?

Not Rick but I'll throw this out there anyway.

Combining with PBS - I see no reason why you couldn't.

Driver - DTR Recommends this one on his site for this diode: 5A Laser Diode Driver Wavelength Electronics PLD 5000 Fast Analog Modulation | eBay

Really you can use any decent laser driver that'll supply ~5A or more at 2.5V or so. A Lasorb is recommended for this diode - worth the investment on such an expensive diode.

You can get TECs with holes - but that's not how you'd do it with a C-mount. Typically you'd mount them to a chunk of aluminum or copper and then mount that to a TEC. You can buy mounts specifically for C-mount diodes - they may be available on eBay.

Keep in mind the case is one "pin" of the diode with C-mounts. So you need some way to make an electrical connection to the case of the C-mount. Best way I've seen is just to use the mount itself as your connection point and then isolate that from everything else using the TEC and either nylon screws or regular screws with nylon washers/insulators.

Not sure if these diodes are case positive or not - but you get the idea.

Hopefully I explained that well enough...

Anyone feel free to correct me if I missed anything or such... :)

Hi Diachi,

Thank you for explanation.

ABarnett suggests that X-wossee drivers should work with this red, too.
After reading this thread I understood that when this diode was available and thread started in 2013, there were no SXD drivers made by Lazeerer. They are used for high power blue NUBM44 today, so maybe they could also work with high power reds?

I also see that temperature control for red LDs is more important that for blue ones.
But whet talking about diode temperature, do you mean the thermocouple inserted into this chunk of Al/Cu or does it have to mesure T of C-mount itself in some way being attached to it or between it and heatsink?
