I am building my first laser host for a 445nm I bought off of eBay about a year ago (well, I bought the parts and put them together). I haven't played with it too much since it is a pain to carry around and I am powering it with a large LiPo battery.

I have finally decided it's time to make a host for it. I bought a little flashlight off of amazon today that I am going to use for the host. It is a AA powered light with a great heatsink (and an LED I can re-use).

Now, I am looking for a battery to power my laser with. Like always Tenergy and UltraFire have super cheep prices for 14500 batteries. On eBay they are selling for very cheep.

UltraFire's protected batteries are 3.45$ a pair.

And Tenergy's 14500 (not protected) are selling for 3.55$ per cell (sold from US seller).

I have had experiance with both UltraFire and Tenergy batteries and I have not been very impressed with either and flat out disappointed with UltraFire. I bought a few UltraFire 16340's for flashlights and, to be frank, they suck. On the other hand I have used Tenergy NiCad's to build drill battery packs and I have no complaints. At least Tenergy's Ah ratings are realistic.

Does anyone have any opinions for which of these I should go for for my first build?

P.S. I have a couple AW 16340s for a flashlight of mine, and I love those. I am thinking about dishing out 10.5$ for an AW 14500, but I would like to start with something cheep until I know I have it working.

What makes that one so special? I did a quick google search and found it a few different places, all for about that price. What about this one, it has the button top, and it is the same seller. It looks like the seller just copied the page from the IMR 16350 listing and that's why it says 350mAh, not 600. It just has a nasty sticker.

Well if you're looking to draw a bunch of power from the cell you want IMR. LiMn is better for high drain applications. When you said $10.5 for an AW cell I thought you were looking for IMR. I'm probably not much help tonight, it's Saturday night :beer:
 
Ohh. I didn't know that AW used IMR cells. That would have been nice to know a long time ago... Thank you.
 
Well they don't make JUST IMR cells, but around here that's mainly what they're known for.
 
I use Panasonics (NCR18650A/B) and AW IMR's... They are both excellent. :beer:

I had some GTL batteries... didn't look anything like the ones in the link, but they were absolute crap.

Stick with AW.
