Researchers have found a way to convert nanoparticle-coated microscopic beads into lasers smaller than red blood cells.
These microlasers, which convert infrared light into light at higher frequencies, are among the smallest continuously emitting lasers of their kind ever reported and can constantly and stably emit light for hours at a time, even when submerged in biological fluids such as blood serum.

Now they will have to figure out how to make nano laser goggles as well

I read the entire link yesterday. Though they are interesting, what they will be useful for remains to be seen. The fact that this was found completely by accident while making nano particles for other purposes seems to show it is an answer waiting for a question. I don't see these as being used for collimated beams, but a source of visible light with a relatively narrow line width.
