Back for Sale!! Price is still $600, i broke my laptop screen and i can't wait 2 weeks without a computer so i need this sold ASAP to fund a new computer. GooeyGus has confirmed that this unit has the 2.5W pump diode so it should be safe to operate at 600/700mw

Well the day has come for me to give up some lasers :( As much as I don't want to, other expenses are getting to me and I need money ASAP :x

So today, we have 2 beautiful lasers up for sale.

GooeyGus's 387mw 532nm Prometheus (he said it SHOULD have a 2.5W pump diode). It measures at 387mw average and peaks at 427mw (original power test) You can throw in 2 CR123A's and get up to 700mw of power (it looks significantly brighter, but i've only tried it for short periods of time). Otherwise, an 18605 battery and charger is included. The duty cycle is unlimited at 375mw. All the pics i've taken are at 387mw.

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if you put 2 CR123A's in and use it for extended periods of time - it is untested and thus I make no guarantees.

2. Daguin Built (bought from darklandz) 200mw BluRay. This thing burns instantly once you focus it and is housed in a MXDL enclosure. Duty cycle is a strict 45 seconds - 1 minute.

the driver can handle it i believe, its just a matter of 2 CR123A's being able to supply more current. And according to gooeygus, the laser likes around 4.2volts, so the 18605 is actualyl underpowering it a bit

I didn't edit anything o.O anyway, according to gooeygus, it peaks at 700mw but drops to aroudn 650mw average with 2 CR123A's. i also have the original metering sheet he sent me which puts the average output power of the prometheus on 18605's at 384mw average and 405mw (~ around that, i'm on the bus right now so i can't check just yet xD) peak.

yea my Rpl averages at 388 or so even at that its a beast i would never double the voltage i paid around 1,200 usd for my unit and until i become rich-financially
stable -win the lottery ect i'll never be able to buy another  in fact if jack wouldn't have helped me on my purchase i'd still have my rpl 260 small block instead of my powerhouse 454 big block  :P

Oh and this thing is way worth what you are asking ;)

So...is a Promethius and an Optotronics RPL the same exact laser?

That I couldn't tell you I believe they are from the same Manufacturer
I think they use the same diode

what I do know is i paid more for my unit because i hear OPTOTRONICS rocks
and jack has proven that to me several times they are tested and warranted by Jack so if your worried about your investment and need a warranty to feel more secure get the opto one , but that being said this one looks like a great bargain ;D

Yup they are all made by viasho. I paid a good chunk of extra money when I ordered this laser to make sure that it has the 2.5W diode. Viasho makes some quality lasers, regardless of who the distributor is. In fact, I've never heard of anyone having a substantial problem with a viasho laser (that doesn't mean it hasn't happened... just I haven't heard about it).

Anyway, this is a great laser, at a very good price. The laser did 700mW on my meter, but was only ran at that power level for a total of LESS THAN a minute and a half. Probably no more than 10 seconds at a time.

To be honest I would love to buy the laser back but I just dont have the cash to do it right now.

its a viasho should be just as good or better than a rpl since technically its an RPL

Hi John,
You of all people should know there are major differences between the RPL and the generic viasho units like the promethius and others being offered by many 3rd party resellers in far east.
If you look back through your emails, I had discussed much of this with you back before the new silver type RPLs became available.
For the others who are not privy to the discussion, I'll repost, but much of this was already posted in the forum lomg ago.

Manufacturers want to sell product, that's the bottom line.
When a company comes to a manufacturer offering to buy a large quantity of the product, but unit cost needs to be reduced by "xxx" dollars and says "what can be done to reduce our cost to this price point"?
The manufacturer works with them, giving them options of (just for instance), we could reduce cost by $3 each by not using an IR filter, or maybe $25 each by using less expensive optical coatings, but where the big cost savings happens is where the diode and crystals are concerned. A huge savings happens by changing to a lessor output or lower reliability diode. Then you can save more buy reducing crystal size, purity or both and that's not even counting the different crystal doping recipes or thicknesses that can be used to reduce costs. They will even go as so far as to reduce the laser diameter or length a few millimeters or more just to save that lillte extra on materials and shipping costs.
Since these resellers will only offering maybe a 3 month warranty with many loopholes and large product return costs, they only need the product to work for a short period of time. Testing the product, much can be saved by not going through any burn-in or extended test process as well and it shows when customers are getting low performance lasers after seeing a review based on a "cherry-picked" laser.
Or maybe they are offering a longer warranty, but have only been in business for a few months and a few months from now will be operating under another name, so product quality or the reputation their company gets is of no concern, the only concern they have is their quick profit margin.

On the other end of the spectrum, some companies ask the manufacturers for improved designs and are willing to pay extra for the quality, reliability and performance that can be had by improving on the product rather than cheapening it.

It's not bad that a manufacturing company does these things, they are just trying to fill every customers needs; with some customers who are willing to pay and get more and other customers who are concerned only about getting their products at the lowest possible cost without concern for their companies long term reputation as most will be long gone or operating under a different name in a short period of time.

Last year our manufacturer approached Optotronics with the suggestion that we change the exterior look of the RPL, so as not to be confused with the look of their "generic" black design becuase they were about to begin marketing the that style in a reduced cost version to many 2rd party resellers in the far east and that most or at least many people don't understand the above described "custom manufacturing per customer" principals. They think if it looks like an RPL then it must be an RPL, but this is not the case.

Don't get me wrong, Optotronics likes to make a profit as much as anyone else, in fact we still wouldn't be here if we couldn't; but just as important as being able to make money on a product is the customer's satisfaction after they get their RPL and send us an email telling us about the performance and how satisfied they are...
I lied, it's even more satisfying gettting those emails than getting the sale!
And it just builds by word of mouth from there.

btw, don't use 2- CR-123 cells in these lasers, it will ruin them in very short order and this is not covered under warranty, and we can detect when an RPL has been exposed to an over-voltage even if it doesn't kill the diode.

400mW+ with 1.1W of pumping power.... sounds like pretty efficient crystals and coatings to me 8-)

Hey guys, I know I have a crapload to catch up with on the forums and I honestly don't have time right now - sorry guys. Someone sent me an e-mail about this trash talk from Jack though, and so I'm just here to offer a quick response:

Jack, quit the crap. Anyone who knows the history here knows how full of BS you are and you're just killing your reputation. The products you sell are good, I admit it, and I wish you could give me the same respect. I know you didn't exactly say all your post referred to my Prometheus products (afterall, DFW may be east Texas, but I'd hardly call it the far east), but we know the implication.

Again, I'll remind people that Prometheus units are not sub-par to RPLs. They are made by the same people, with the same parts, as the same model unit. Now, you can keep insinuating I'm cutting costs by leaving out an IR filter, using lower power diodes, etc, but that's total bunk and we all know it. You know how I've worked at least 1000x as hard as you to make sure people don't buy lasers without IR filters, and you know I'm using the 2.5W diodes too.

I also do substantial burn-in testing. Of course I don't know for sure, but I'd bet more than you do. BUT, lets not bring it to that. Personally, I'd like to leave the fighting aside and simply say we offer equal lasers, you with greater service, longer warranty, and a bit of a price premium to match. Whereas I offer them at lower, more budget-oriented prices, but with less warranty time to match.

Warranty loopholes, large product return costs? Well now you're just pulling BS out of your... hat. C'mon man, just because I don't have time to keep up with the forums you're gunna come on in and take advantage of me with every low blow you can try? That just ain't right.

And remember, this isn't a business for me, just a hobby and when I get the time I offer a few lower priced units - that's all. In the past 6 months I've probably sold 3, max 4 Prometheus units and in the past 2 months I haven't even bothered to try to sell 1. If you gotta stoop this low for THAT level of competition, I'm sorry - your business must really be hurting and I'm sorry, but please dont take it out on me. I don't deserve it and you know it.

Peace? I really hate all this fighting. It makes both of us look bad, and it doesn't help your business one bit. Its not too late to save face. If you turn tail and cut the crap now, I forgive you and I hope we can continue representing good business ethic - showing a mutual respect for one another and admitting that those few lasers I sell a year are a decent deal, while I continue supporting you and your optotronics business (remember that RPL-300 popping 20 balloons video? I still leave it on YouTube promoting your company - no mention of any Prometheus lasers or anything. I guess its my lasting tribute for the respect I once had for your company, and hope to soon have again).



PS: Don't hold me accountable for the 650 or 700mW claims made in this post. I never reported any such values, and I do not endorse or support them.
