hey everyone, NYCer here, getting my MS in bio, as a partial scientist, obviously like lasers

i hate essays so ill keep this short, ive only had experiences with low mW 5-30 red and freens, max i ever owned was 100mW greenie, which was too powerful to play with my cat, and too powerful to shine anywhere in nyc, the sky is filled with airplanes, and ocean with ships, so to use any of them i hate to wait until 1 am then few seconds at a time, shine at a tree, i dont like attention lol

what brought me to finally register is Sodium lasers, with street lights turning all moon-light colored, I really wanted to have the sodium spectrum laser, but they are very expensive at the moment, then i got curious in IR and magenta lasers, so ive been having a small discussion about IR burning properties vs magenta etc. figuring out abilities of each one etc

Welcome to the forums Golden! Glad you decided to make a "Welcome" thread. Yeah, kind of hard to enjoy this hobby in the middle of a city :(

Welcome Golden, like your avatar. Trying to figure out if it's a eye or a solar system? Enjoy and be safe. :)

 Welcome to the Forum...
I see you don't have much use for capitols
in your Introduction... Is your Shift key or
Caps Lock key broken ?
Since this is a public Forum... Grammar really
is a plus since all communications are in English
word form..

Enjoy your stay and telling us a little about
yourself and your laser experience..:yh:

BTW... get some Laser Safety Goggles/Glasses
for your >5mW lasers and don't blind your cat...;)

Welcome!

In case you weren't aware magenta isn't a part of the visible spectrum, it can only be created by mixing red and blue. It's purely a result of the way our eyes/brain work where they interpret red and blue together as magenta.

Have fun, be safe!

haha
I thought is was a pic of an eye injury...and a BAD one.
welcome-- we have great and helpful members up your way..

I've seen that nebula before. It's from the Hubble telescope, IIRC. Welcome and enjoy your stay here.

thanks guys, ill be safe, I have looked around a lot already, and saw a lot of great projects, I would even take on building my own laser, I have the soldering iron and enough knowledge to make one, problem is the housing, everyone here seems to have the machinery to make their own bodies for the lasers

you could always ask one of the members to machine a host for you, or theres also a few nice hosts from survivallasers

Lifetime17 and ElectricPlasma both machine custom hosts for members at very reasonable prices.

That is one interesting image on your avatar Ron. Welcome from another new comer

Welcome:)

OK, what has happened to the donations here? I know I've rarely been here over at least the last 6 months but as far as I know I have't missed a donation yet. Is it really only $23 (before I just gave again)?
