Other than the Lyra, what other highly stable <5mW pointers are there?

I'd like something without any perceptible artifacts (e.g. mode hopping or noticeable brightness changes) during warmup if possible.

Jasper uses the same kind of driver as the Core, as I do like the Core, I would say it's a style thing!

btw, they state the Jasper will point to any object in the night sky and be seen from 20 feet away, but it is not so very true, if for instance, the air is quite dry and dust free as in Arizona, and the suburban light pollution makes it hard to see 4th mag stars, a person 20 feet away will not see a 5 mW Jasper beam pointed near zenith! I tried it! My son didn't believe the laser was turned on 'till I waved my hand in front of it. I am sure this is part of why many astronomers buy green lasers at about 20 to 75 mW. ;) -Glenn

I wonder why people buy so expensive "low-powered" greenies.

Power isn't everything. When a pointer is only going to be used for pointing, keeping under the 5mw legal eye-safe cutoff is handy for both practical and liability reasons.

I haven't been impressed with cheap DPSS <5mw greens yet, both because many of them are reportedly far brighter than 5mw and because the cheap green I have has serious beam quality and stability issues.

It's perfectly reasonable to spend $50++ on a green pointer if that's what it takes to get a green pointer that is eye safe and doesn't drop to half brightness when used right side up.

Agree with Power isn't everything
5mW is enough for many purpose already . Why always want high power ?

I recommend the Core, because I have one, and they are an excellent laser. It does drop in brightness (well, mine did) when the batteries were quite dead. But that's not the fault of the laser, just the dead batteries.
