hey guys
a few months back i bought a blu ray laser pen, needless to say i was very careless and dropped it one too many times. It barely works but when i put my ear near it i hear a high pitched sound, any ideas?

A faint high-pitched sound is not uncommon in LED flashlights which have a PWM driver for dimming, but that would be unusual in a laser. Maybe if you can specify some details about the pen (model/company), the driver (if known) and what you mean with "it barely works"?

If your Laser uses a FlexDrive or another type of Boost Driver you may have jarred
something loose by dropping it.
The noise you are hearing is probably the frequency of the oscillator of the boost
driver through the Induction Coil (the big black thing on the PCB)...
The induction Coil has wires wrapped around it... similar to a speaker
coil..

actually guys i bought it off ebay so driver etc i dont know. the host is similar to this

. and by barely works i mean it is fainter than my 1mW red.

Then... I guess you couldn't make it much worse opening it up..
Maybe you could even fix it..........:yh:

I have 2 flexdrives that "whine" or squeek as you put it. both drivers funtion properly... but they both whine to loud i can hear it if im in the same room. even with the TV on, its quite high pitched. i always wondered what was the cause of this. they seemed to do this ever since i got them brand new from modwerx. "at NO fault of drew" how could he have known? plus they work so im happy.

Interesting subject,

Very interesting subject, indeed - I have 2 lasers that exhibit this trait, both labbies, one is a 50mW DPSS green from SHINP, 5VAC input and squeals like a pig until warmed up (the noise is from the driver board, just can't pin down where) and the other is an Aixiz 120mW DPSS green labbie that makes the noise if turned down to 80mW or so, but stops abruptly at 90mW plus, give or take... That driver is a 120VAC input.

Of note, both lasers lase and perform flawlessly and stably, in spite of the "inbuilt audio".

More info from a Guru is in order, I presume...
