some weird problem

ive got an x16 nec dvd burner diode
its a closed can
well the problem is that i set the current at 430 ma
and the 1st problem is that it dosent getting evan alil warm(which is weird)
it stay cold all the time even after 2 minutes

and second which is the major problem
it dosent lighting up a match
and its cutting black tape very fast like in 2 sec
i'm realy desparate plz help me

It sounds too weird.
430mA is too much.
However at that current it should be very hot. If it is cutting black tape, it will light a match. Are you sure you have focused it to very small spot?

yes, 430ma is best reserved for diodes with larger dies, like a LOC, turn it down a bit, i've never driven a 16X past 280ma, and even that maybe pushing it.

You simply need different mathes then...
I know I had some that were exeptionally difficult to ignite with a laser.

Try coloring you match heads with a black sharpie marker....

I had this problem with my blu-ray, it seemed to smoke the match but it was just not covering enough area of the match to actually cause any ignition, it was just burning small areas

try colouring it black as flamin said, and just move the laser backwards and forwards a bit to get the optimum distance to light the match.

It's not an issue of not lighting the match due to power, as it's cutting tape so it's something your end :d

And yea I would turn the current down to about 250mA? 280mA? At the moment it's gonna die very soon.

well i got plenty og them
i just have some big computer store who keep the broken dvd burners for me
so right now i got wat too much (like 40)
so i dont realy mind for laser life time
im just doing some testings with the diodes to get experince with them

I run Long Closed Can diodes routinely at 420mA. My personal one is running at 500mA.

yeah I was gonna say.. 420 is what I would call "safe" current.. (no guarantees). When I get mine that's the current I'm using. Just try different matches, I know the brown paper matches hate lasers and never ignite (im using a 140mw BR....) They are just a pain in the a$$.
