Some comments, and problems with the new LPF

So, I took a good look at the new forum, and found some intersting stuff.
First, in the history, the title of the page doesn't just show "Laser Pointer Forums", but more info, like the thread that had been visited, so searching for a web page in the history is no more about selecting a random page. The layout isn't bad, but is it temporary, or will there be a new one?

Second, there's a major problem on my Ipod, when I load the page. Here's a screenshot :

As you see, things are overlaping.

Third, I miss those forum code hotkeys, especially the smilleys

And finally, I found something weird in the profile details.
It says : "Hobby : [____________]"
That doesn't disturb me, but I found that a little funny...

Finally, I don't really like those big blue balls that mark the topics.

And finally (for real this time), will we get our reputation back?

hey, dont know why this is happening but its something with the browser on ipod

there are 3 layouts available u can chose from

see the sticky at top of forum for this or at bottom left corner of page u can select layout u want

I had 1, and I see I have 1 here too. Didn't you say it wouldn't transfer? I think it's okay. Do you think there's anything I can do for my Ipod?

not sure if there is anything u can do, but i just changed the default layout to darkshadows


does the black layout (dark shadows) look better on mobile?

A couple other things I've noticed...

Nested quotes don't work, it'll show the first quote, then regular text for the second quote, then a stray [/quote]
Most smilies don't work, including really common ones like

doesn't work, and it really messes up existing threads that include this feature, peppering it with all sorts of [td] and tags... Daedal's driver thread on experiments/modifications is a good example.
[media] doesn't work, can't embed youtube videos etc.
Images attached to threads don't display, and for some reason when you click them it offers to load them in an external viewing program rather than rendering it in your browser. I'm guessing maybe the MIME types are set wrong.. In either case I'm sure we'd all prefer if they loaded within the thread by default.

As to the smiley's that is just an add-on that C0ld can add to increase the number of available smileys.

There are a few that I personally would like to see permanently added to the list of smiley's available. Those are:

Stop the insanity:

Big Gun or laser:

And last but not least my favorite.
Drooling google eyes:

This last one is good for posting any time you see a picture of daguin's 500mw bluray!

"16. Black skin - long forum sub-title in main forum list page extends down into next forum name, writing text on top of each other!...Gut feel is that this may be caused by a bug in that skin (CSS?), and may likely rear it's ugly head in other situations..."

BuildAbluraylaser, try switching your default skin (via User Control Panel, Edit Options, near bottom) from "User Forum Default" to "Default Style", and see if that fixes it!

I had the same problem, need to change your default editor setting! (Again, User Control Panel, Edit options).

Someone suggested changing to WYSIWYG, but then you can't see the codes

But then I discovered if you set it to -

"Standard Editor - Extra Formatting Controls"

you get all the buttons, PLUS you can see all the codes in the text box - just like YaBB!

And finally (for real this time), will we get our reputation back?

pseudolobster, if you are talking about attached images on the older posts that were converted-over from YaBB, that has been a major problem over the last week!

I managed to come-up with a manual DIY solution to that issue, and posted a detailed tutorial on how to fix this for your own posts here -

As you can see from the example pics, it works great!

(For new threads, that is a different issue, and still needs to be resolved, but the problem is not nearly as severe!)

c0ld, you may want to move the loc. on that, as I noticed while posting in other threads that that huge "Ray Gun" is now warping my edit screen!

BTW, have been working on new project - am about to release an interim smilies solution shortly!
