I would rather live with the risk of shootings or people with other dangerous objects than live with an overprotective nanny government that bans anything that can possibly be dangerous. Idiots will always find a way to hurt themselves and other people and you can't stop them. Btw I'm a strong supporter of the right to bear arms so don't try to convince me otherwise.
I think you've misinterpreted me (I probably should of been more clear).
I also believe in the freedom to bear arms (

responsibly. It's not just the fact that you have heaps of guns that results in america having more shootings than anywhere else, but it's the lack of responsibility around the guns.
Notice how I haven't campaigned to get rid of all those other dangerous chemicals in this thread? I'm only concerned about the mercury because it has severe environmental effects in that quantity. Here is just an article I pulled up from a google search,
http://water.usgs.gov/wid/FS_216-95/FS_216-95.html read it. There is a hundred more articles where that came from. Ask any biologist, they'll tell you that mercury contamination can have severe affects to aquatic environments. To the animals there, and to anything that eats those animals (like humans eating fish). All you need to do is flush the mercury down the sink.
An irresponsible person could do severe damage to an ecosystem with that much mercury, where as with the other chemicals they could only really hurt themselves. Those other dangerous chemicals, go ahead. I'm sure the person purchasing them is responsible. If not, I won't shed a tear at their funeral.
I'm just trying to promote awareness and safety, like I said. I'm not trying to restrict your options or freedom to buy anything
I mean, if you REALLY want mercury, just buy it at your local store! At least that way they can make sure the person buying it is over 18 and is briefed with the proper procedures to handle it.
