I am wondering the same thing, if it can be re-canned somehow. Yep, I imagine without the can to protect the diode, the life will be much shorter because dust will eventually find a way to get in. Only the Aixiz module and lens would keep dust out and I don't think they are completely sealed, or there could be minute particles I can't see floating around inside the module, since I don't have a clean room.
