I saw this article and thought I would share it here (appologies if this has been posted before)...

Technology Review: Solar-Powered Laser

EDIT: just realised this thread would be better in the science and lasers section, if a mod would kindly move it for me that would be great...

Yes, very interesting. I wonder what the potential power is on this thing? Infinity? Also in space, solar rays are MUCH stronger than here in the atmosphere! ORBITAL DEFENSE GRID ANYONE??? the aliens will come

Awesome. Now I have an idea on what weapon to use on my spaceship for 2012!

Thanks, great post.

I like the solar-powered laser. I think it is useful in laser. And it is dangerous to have that laser. But I think I like the solar power. Solar Generator, Is it environmental friendly equipment?
Ideal for camping or emergency power outages, the
Sun Power Port is a portable generator that when used
to its full potential will pay for itself in less than two years.
In one day of full sunshine, the solar panel easily charges
the 12 volt (standard automobile) battery. An inverter
changes the DC current to AC.

Ironically for hand held portable lasers the best time to use them is at night :D

If you buy a parabolic mirror put it on your roof and connected to a fiber optic cable for laser light applications that is long enough to reach your room you have a solar laser in your room,...(2003-2004):D

^^ yea, because that costs $0.99

EDIT: oh snap, this is my 50th post!
