whats the smallest pen style red laser (atleast 100mw) that you have seen, whether it's a real pen or a DIY.

i am working on oen right now, it's going to be a pen style, with a push button that i am stealing from a broken green laser.

right now it will be 2 1/4 inches long, but i plan on cutting it down even smaller once i have it together and see how it all fits.

so a 2 1/4 inches long pen style laser running at 350mA. going to be fuckin sweet!

won't have much battery life as i'm using the small 9v security batteries that are like 3/4 the size of a AAA battery.

but they are only $1.88 for 2 of them so i figured what the hell.

i'll post the final size and pictures once it is done.....
just hope i can get it together without breaking the diode.....i alrdy broke the GD lead off and drop solder from it to the unused to make it work again....

Ruh Roh!  ::)

Mohrenberg's getting all experimental on us here.  :-/

Welcome to the madness!  :D ;D :P :)

I look forward to seeing your build.   8-)

Peace,
dave

RAWR! this diode is crapped out, i'll have to wait untill i get a new diode, but i am still going to get it all put together so i can just add the module to the build once i get the new diode.

Hey... for a guy that couldn't get his first 3 Laser Diodes to light up (IIRC).... you sure have
progressed to some fancy build project.... :o
Like we said at the beginning.... never give up the dream......... ;)

Can't wait to see that small pen myself.... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

i'm too eager too wait so i am just going to build a little LED light, but i am using the high powered LED that comes with the expensive flashlights that i have left over from my old hosts.

i'm also soldering a spring onto the end of my driver for the battery to slide into, and the end of the pen will also unscrew so that changing batteries is simple, and the button switch is will be on the end that screws off.....

because with christmas coming up money is tight and i may not be able to get around to buying a diode anytime soon (my gf got me an xbox 360 so i have to beat her gift wise...)

ok i built the "pen light" using the led light, but i use it with the driver and everything, the only thing differect is it's an led light instead of a laser diode.

now that i know everything will fit, i think i will order a diode and get it built!

fyi, it's made from the top half of the 30mw green laser pens, but just the top half only, so it's around 2 1/2 inches long running on the 12v security batteries like those that are in garage door openers.

Pictures! :D
just have a AAA for size reference, just an led in it, right now i am putting an IR diode in it cause thats all i got right now.....but atleast it will still burn.

Looks great! 2 questions though.
How long will that 12v run the driver+diode?
What IR LD you using?

I'm not thinking the battery will be able to sustain >350mA... maybe 50-100mA?

yeah :( i'm beginning to see that.........
i noticed that the diode i put in it isn't as bright as usual, so i put a regular 9v battery on it to see, and it's brighter than the 12v security battery.......

so i put the driver (rckstr 350ma fixed) up to my rckstr test load ( :) i like rckstr) and it was jumping between 70-100 mA.

so it may not work for a burning red laser

perhaps this build could be used for a bluray?

btw, the IR diode is from a 30mw green laser i tore apart.....

A CR2/CR123A + Flex Drive would work.

yeah, but that battery would be too big i think....it can't be any bigegr in diameter than a AAA, and around half the size.

no biggie though, would still work with a BR i think?
