It has been a while since I received a new diode to add to my collection.

The Sharp GH04850B2G 490nm

Wow, What an absolutely superb color from this diode. I love it. It's a DTR 12mm Copper module with a 2 Element Glass lens mounted in an S4 Host from Survival Lasers.

Output power meters at 66mw. G2 lens would be higher output but I don't like the artifacts with a G2 lens.

The Image doesn't do it justice. The color is amazing. Just like my Argon.

^^^^^ Agreed ^^^^^ Looks good, but more photos are always better, especially with these beautiful wavelengths! :yh:

Fair comment. As usual I rushed it. I should assemble them at a better time of day instead of around midnight after I get home from work.

I will try and do some better beamshots later.

It is a very quick build though. Nothing special and takes about 10 mins to assemble. Not realy worth showing the assembly pics.

I love these new 490nm diodes too. I have had the pleasure of measuring about 30 of them so far and there is enough range in these diodes to get a completely blue or a blue/green laser light out of them. I do enjoy beam shots, though. I think that is what everyone is asking for more of. I'm out of reps at the moment, but will give you one once that lets up.

I prob won't be able to do more beam shots until the weekend.

But here is an out of Focus Shot shining thru a piece of A4 white paper. It does a good job showing the beam profile and the color looks pretty close to what my Eye's see.

I have not powered up my Argon and calibrated my Spectrometer accurately so there is some error.

I am looking at using a Mercury Vapor lamp at work to calibrate it next week.

Anyway, A quick check with this Diode gives me a reading of 487nm. I doubt that is accurate though. I have only done calibration using my HeNe and a few Diode lasers so maybe up to a 5nm error.

You can likely get by using your 473nm, 532nm, 632.8nm and a fluorescent light. That should get you in a ball park, anyway. Ne is good for the upper end of the spectrum on these B&W ones, but you will need sources down to 400nm to get the low end.
