Was that the ledshoppe 50 mW in your signature?

I have one that i intend to use, but it seems to be installed rather securely in the pen host - doesnt just drop out like the DX pointer modules. Any hints on how to remove it without damaging the module? I dont mind destroying the pen host in the process.

Also, is the module actually 12mm diameter when you get it out?

no its not 12mm.
up it was a pain so ill show you what i did. i am going to make a webcam video give me a second.
video uploading done check page 3 and first post

Too bad its so much work to get out. Do you think it would be viable to tear away the outer casing instead of going through all that? Its pretty thin copper tubing, i'm sure i could tear/peal the whole thing apart if i wanted too.

I really like this laser (for its price), especially since it has a wider beam than most greens that fits well with the aixiz red/bluray beams.

But what is the diameter of the module if its not 12mm? On the video it looks exactly the same diameter as the aixiz modules you use to pull it out with...

its not much work just when dealing with the laser carefuller. i got mine out in less than 5min.
the hardest part is getting the lens out of the pointer. pulling it out happens very fast once the glue gives.
They are a bit different i am uploading a better picture.
you could take a dremmel to the housing and cut it off but you are risking a lot, generating heat static and possibly nicking the laser itself.
Unless you are very good with one or just use it to start then try to peel the rest away i would not suggest it.

No dremels involved... copper is quite pretty ductile, you can take a tube apart by making 2 cuts into it and rolling/tearing a slice with pliers. The ledshoppe pointer seems to have an odd construction though, i'm not even sure the lens is mounted to the laser and not the outer casing.

I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of the module you got out, if possible with dimensions.

Well as far as dimensions go the only thing i have is a ruler so nothing to exact maybe someone who has more tools and has done this can help out.

I have calipers, but those don't work remotely ;)

Just to get an indication: Compared to the aixiz module, is it larger or smaller in diameter, and if so, how much do you estimate?

it is larger than the aixiz. idk maybe its around 14-16mm how ever you can measure the inside of the brass housing and get a better idea of how big it would be.

Ah okay, so it just fills the entire tube diameter then :)

I figured there would be some ring/spacer in between as you often see in these greenies.

Nope no spacer at all.
but the back of the laser module is a tiny bit larger than the front. but by the smallest of bits.

I've gotten it out... measures 13.3 mm diameter (something like 13.25 to 13.35 depending on where you measure along the case). Its a nice module, but with this size very hard to get heatsinking for.

go to onlinemetals.com and buy a 1.5 square block of aluminum for like 1$ and drill a hole mount it. or do it with a rod what ever you like. if the drill bit lets say ex is only 13 mm you can make a relief cut along the top and stretch it open a tad and that will make it go in.

I just got my first optical mount built. needs some better screws or at least cut to the right size but it should work.
