I've recently heard that two russion scientists where able to produce graphene with scotch tape and graphite. Pretty cool stuff. I've heard that it's capable of unparalleled strength (200 time the tensile strength of steel), thermal conductivity that rivals even diamond, electrical conductivity that rivals copper, and much much more!

It's transparent, so it's possible to make flexible touch screens.YouTube - Graphene touchscreen in action!

And can be made 1/3.000.000 of mm thick, too ..... practically inexistent :p :D

The best part is HOW they made it:) They used scotch tape to peel off thin layers from a big piece of graphite!

To be clear this was the original way in 2004, and for quite some time the ONLY way, to isolate graphene. It had never been observed before they did it with Scotch tape. Now there are several other ways, thankfully.

And I think this prize may have been a bit pre-mature. Their work was done in 2004, and they're already getting the Nobel for it? It was surprising to many people, I believe...but it does bode well for my graduate adviser that a Nobel was given for this work, since that might mean his work could merit a Nobel one day.

PBD, when you become famous, remember us! I like your "direct-injection quantum mechanics for dummies" type of posts

and psh, I made graphene way before anybody else, where's my nobel prize?!

Also, if you remember the dude who got the Ig Nobel for magnetically levitating a frog, this is the same dude.

I remember hearing about this in my organic class earlier this year, Graphene is some cool stuff and even cooler when you realize how they got it :P

Never knew it could be used for touch screens through, very innovative
thanks for the info Op

Very cool stuff, I guess I been in the closet and had not heard about it befor now :(
