tatman had this idea a while back...
I was recently asked by a member to do this mod for him, so I decided to take a few pictures if anyone wants to see how...
This is just a picture of the adjustable RPL tail cap, which is the best cap to have, but it's kind of a hassle to carry a little screw driver. Also, it will get scratched up in time.
I used a small threaded knob. The key to the mod, is the custom machined bolt that you see here. The plastic washer is used at the finish...
This must be a perfect, tight fit for the slot on the adjuster, and a perfect thickness to allow it to turn. (but also, not loose either) This 'bolt/screwdriver', will be installed on the inside of the cap. Notice the small modified washer there as well...
These 'thin' washers are used to compensate for the thickness of the custom 'thin' bolt head/screwdriver tip that is now inside the cap.
After putting on the plastic washer, I used some medium strength thread lock to install the knob.
Finished if off by drilling some 'divots' into the knob and cap. Then filling the divots with white paint. One dot marks the 'off' position, and the other dot marks position number '4'. Which is normally the optimum position. No other dots are really needed, because it is easy to count the 'clicks'. But I figured that these two positions were good to mark...
Hope you like it!
