RGB hand-held laser

I am amazed at how large a RGB laser need to be , even know they don't need
to be as powerful to be effective as long rang pointers .

THREE CRITICAL SPECS

1 length with and with out battery
2 diameter
3 Out put R -G -B

Optimum length 5-6" with batterys
Diameter 1/2 -3/4"
Out Put 200mw red 660 or 100mw 633nm
300mw blue 445nm
100mw green

Can any one get close to these specs or even care too??

As soon as green diodes come out reasonably priced to consumers, my next project will be as small diameter as possible. But you still have to account for lens width, which is essentially the limiting factor in my set up (minus water cooling). But I am planning, eventually, to experiment with a single lens, a single chamber, and diode angles into the chamber and lens. Duty cycles would be much shorter unless they are more efficient, or run lower power.

Unless someone with access to a 5axis mill would like to run off some blanks and experiment for me :) coughcough.

Green rivers laser makes a laser diode that has a reducer filter and collimator
all in one package that snugly fits over the IR diodes can ( cover ) whole thing
fits on a dime, looks like a 5.6mm case.

Sadly to fully miniatures this RGB optics set up you will have to
start milling out holes , channels and thread it ,

Cooling can start to become an issue as you move in to the 1000wm range
RGB source output combined not mixed out put.

I have been messing around with a cheap Green laser pointer
and was able to consolidate all three elements including the Hi temp crystal mount in to of all things a 1/8 aluminum standoff , she get a little warm after 1 min or so but
the brightness increase substantially.

The best I can to with stock parts off ebay is 29mm by 6 1/4 long intermittent
use only min on tops 30cess off.

load 680ma - 790 out put 700mw RGB I'll post some pisc when I size up the
batteries

The laser sounds interesting, please post a link, don't wait for batteries to post the photos

My RGB laser is not big conidering it had a LCD display, joystic and microprocessor.

Do you have any good final product pictures of everything put together? The only final pics I saw were beamshots.

This is beyond epic sir, WTG! The finished product this thing's truly amazing, and well beyond worth all the hard work. Pretty excited to see your next project is going to be and how you intend on topping this one.
Cheers to you sir,

Hi Wanaburn, page 8 post #184:D

Thank you mdunnicus,
"top this one"...not sure, but i'm thinking of a next project.

Multi did you ever fix the red beam's wings?
Hi Duke,
The wings are not fixed and it is killing me the way the beam looks:yabbmad:
I'm about to order some optics to have a play with, but I think I'll also need to order another Mitsi diode to try the experiment with as I don't want to strip down the handheld quiet yet.

I've got a bit of gardening to do - it got WAY out of control while I was building the laser:D

Lol I bet. DTR has RGB single mode diodes now, is that an option for this build?

The Single mode set could be an option, but I was aiming for the laser to be 1W+.
The single modes are much lower power and with such a big host, it kinda needs Powahr:D

Anyway, by the time I get the mitsi wings sorted, there will be a single mode megawatt 3.8mm red diode:D

So the question remains... would you do these on request? How much would one unit cost?

Cheers

I have always been very impressed with this build. It would be amazing to see it done with the single mode diodes. You may loose some power but it would very pleasant to not have the colors bleeding due to the different divergences.

And would probably be cheaper. :D

Hi DTR,

What would be the combined output using simgle modes you sell?
I have a few sets of the mechanical parts for the handheld and over the winter have a go at building another RGB Handheld using SM diodes.

Thunderdome, to reverse the question, what are you willing to pay :-)
