RGB Diffraction Grating

Alaskan if you would like the thing I pictured you can have it. I'm hoping someone will find use out of it and maybe have fun with it.

My favorite part about this thread is how it was revived after 4 years and we go on talking about it like nothing happened :D.

Starlight, I think it might go to waste with me, I already bought a 3CCD prism on ebay a couple of days ago which I believe is more suited to what I was looking for, but thank you for your kind offer.

Old threads can be revived if you are adding to the thread or seeking more of the same kind of information, it is only when someone adds to an old thread with "oh so cool" or something like that it's considered necro'ing, at least, according to Ped and I like his position on that. I can see a reason to allow it, better to add more to an old thread than start a new one.

Right, I guess. But I wonder how you even stumble upon something like this? I mean it's 4 years old.

I searched through pasts posts in the forum, sometimes I will do that for quite a while and if I find a thread which is on the same subject, but need more info, I figure it's better to add to it than make a new one, that way all of the info is in one thread for the next person to come to the same well.

I'd go with these mostly because they're cheap for 3x of them compared to other sources. They're also the taller and higher quality variety compared to the really cheap ones you'll find in many cheapo RGB setups on eBay.

I wouldn't bother with the swivel head ones. I'm not even sure what the point of the swiveling head is, as you usually don't need that degree of freedom when trying to combine beams. They lack the flexure-based adjustment screws too, which is what is used to fine-adjust and set the angle of the dichro. At the time, some guy on the forum was also selling them for way too much compared to the ones I linked to above.

You should also buy some hex-socket screws and washers to mount these to a metal plate. I bought boxes of 100x on Amazon so that I wouldn't ever run out.

I now have 3 of both types, I'm hearing the swivel heads don't need periodic tweaking compared to the flex type. Now i'm on the fence!
