MANITOWOC, Wis. — Police say a bear bit off a woman's
fingers at a Wisconsin zoo after she ignored barriers and
warning signs to try to feed the animal.

The Lincoln Park Zoo in Manitowoc closed after the incident
Friday morning. Police say the 47-year-old woman lost a
thumb and a forefinger, and two other fingers were
partially severed.

The woman's boyfriend was bitten as he tried to pry the bear's
mouth off her hand, but he didn't lose any fingers.
Her 3-year-old granddaughter wasn't injured.

A mayor's office statement says alcohol played a factor.

It's unclear which of two Asiatic black bears bit the women
when she put her hand through their enclosure's fence. Police tell
the Herald Times Reporter the bears likely won't be euthanized.

Manitowoc is about 80 miles north of Milwaukee

Hey Stupid! Thats why they have fences and signs to keep people like you out.

I sure hope they don't consider putting the bears down, It's not their fault.

The couple will probably sue the zoo anyway, and gets lots of money.
 





Ya exactly Woodofcville the lady got what she deserved and the bear will prolly pay for it. Pisses me off!
 
I bet not only will the bear be put down but the lady will try to sue the zoo.

Sounds like those guys who lase police choppers from their homes and then wonder how they got caught.
 
I was a zookeper and guide at Everglades Wonder Gardens for about three yrs.(Bonita Springs FL) Saw idiots like this EVERY day. At this private zoo it was possible to 'feed the animals' your fingers at most of the cages and displays.

Forget the signs. We had two Fl. bears and some thought it was cute that they would lick your fingers when you stuck them a little into the cage-- they often would look at me and ask 'Do they Bite'? If a finger was within biting distance they got bit every time. Had to watch them like a hawk- especially the kiddos- as the folks sure were not!!

Otters are another hard biter too. And morons think they are like the ones in the Disney movies(NOT). And the Sandhill cranes with thier long bills could get you from a good 6 inches away from the wire.

One day a fool (w/ his family watching)tossed a small trash basket into the American Croc (12 of them-some big ones too) display-- told me he did it because he was sure they were fake--i.e. -not moving-good example for his kids. We had (no) fun getting the candy/chip wrappers and soda cans from the pit. The crocs distroyed the (peach) basket. I told him they were resting from a long morning of dancing and frollicking with each other --you just missed it. I loved the critters there but hated the people for the most part. Lot of hard work for low pay--same at all zoos.---HZ
 
Well, she did manage to feed the bear - a couple of her own fingers, that is.

I suppose people should know that bears are dangerous. Otters and seals are a bit of a different story since most people believe these are benign cuddly creatures - some very clear warnings should be displayed. Somehow i'd rather put my hand in with the piranhas than in front of a seals mouth ;)
 
I would take the "facts" in any article from the Huffington Post VERY lightly. However, if there is even a grain of truth in this story (and it doesn't seem as made up as some of their others, so perhaps there is), I really hope they don't put down the bear but rather sue the woman for feeding it disgusting fingers and being drunk in public.

If I was that bear I'd try to eat her hand too, probably a chubby tourist-style hand with food grease all over it from her last grazing at the nearest fast food chain... :crackup:
 
I hope the bear didn't catch anything from that disgrace of a human being.
