Rep power?

i been a member for a while, i was just wondering how do we get our rep powers? do we get it when we sell something and if the customer is happy with the product, or do we get it when we post a thread or reply on a thread and some one likes it?

You get it when someone gives it to you, as well as every 250 posts. They can give it to you for anything, but they can also take it from you if you are annoying
