Re: FS: LG Hercules and PL520 W/ X-drive, 450 leadlight, Taurus, Gold FSM

I think the main reason that it uses D batteries is because of the fact that it's being marketed mostly to the US and Canada which use these cells as a standard, that way you don't have to go track down batteries. And making them easy to find and affordable. I mean, who can say they have 18650s in common items? You can't buy them at a wal-mart as far as I know, and if you're out doing a tower alignment or something all you gotta do is go buy more a block down the road. Usually unless their a laser or flashlight enthusiast, people have probably never heard of an 18650 or a 26650

That and the D cells total up to far more current/capacity than the li-ions. Same thing I suspect with the Aries laser, using C cells instead of an 18650.

Wish I had an LPM so I could more accurately gauge which setting is optimum

Your next step for sure.

The RPL did near 700mW with not fully-loaded cells.
ultimatekaiser explained the use of the IR crystal pretty well. That' s why I paid for the state-of-the-art crystal upgrade.

Made a quick edit above

And Best results I've ever had were with a yvo4 and a KNbO3 for most of my dpss processes

It's true about the batteries, but with a laser this expensive, I wouln't think power would be an afterthought. "hey I just spent $XXXX on this laser. ooops, forgot to get batteries, oh well, I'll just go down to the store (goes to store): Clerk; "what the hell is a 18650?" Can it at least use rechargeable Ds?

so much for marketing the hercs to U.S.

I've never tried it, but I'm sure it can. Though the lower voltage won't drive the diode the same. LG recommends Duracell batteries , and I can confirm they tend to give better results in almost all of my lasers, not just this one. And again, D primaries have massive current backing. Don't forget this thing has a fan in it... Think it's maximum draw is just a little over 3 Amps!

I figured as much, my biggest complaint with rechargeables in that type of battey. It's what, about 1.2V per cell instead of the usual 1.5V?

Yeah usually. I honestly don't worry about it much. The battery life is pretty decent, and I often use it indoors so the AC adapter is what I usually use. Though it's intended for when it is stationary. It comes out rather easy. That and on battery, the fan is thermally controlled and run on low, on AC, it's not an issue so it runs all the time on high. Making it push air much better.

Updated first post :)
Also it's very snowy here, and more and more is coming, so orders will be delayed as I find holes in the storm to get to the PO. The plows can't keep up and so I thank you for your patience.

BUMP for you! Here is a picture of that 450 with the beam visible. Feel free to use it.

Thanks WBS. It's a beautiful pen. I just wanna make another, and a 445, and I don't need two of the same one. Should put one of my 680s in a pen... Now there's an idea! :)

Re: FS: LG Hercules/450nm leadlight/680nm modules/Gold Mirror

updated first post, dropped a few prices too :tinfoil: suprised the mirror and 680 havn't sold. they're really nice lasers. we have a few CO2 builders going around too....Gold is the best for these if you need redirecting mirrors....though the work exceptionally for anything...

Re: FS: LG Hercules/450nm leadlight/680nm modules/Gold Mirror

Can you get me a picture of the out put of the 680 that does 30mW? And can you hold it for me? I want it(pending seeing the output shape) and the gold mirror potentially. You could ship tjem with my 532 parts as well.

Re: FS: LG Hercules/450nm leadlight/680nm modules/Gold Mirror

the shape is nearly perfectly circular after collimation. Its tricky, but i'll see if I can get a pic. uncollimated it's kind of an "I" shape
